    Well, a 291 would probably make a reasonable comparison with an Echo 590 but I was looking for a 60 cc saw or larger. That leads to a 391 (64 cc) or a 362 series (60 cc) and they are all a bit pricey, again compared with the Echo. If the 291 will cut with an Echo 590, it is available with Easy 2 Start, which I think is a plus.

    Nope, did not really consider a Dolmar- no dealer support around here that I know of. The Echo is well supported by local dealers, is $400 new and comes with a 5 year warranty. Again, not claiming it is the best saw around, just that it is a solid brand with a solid history and local support, is enough saw for what I need and is the best value anywhere in 'saw land' that I could find.

    That said, it does look like the Dolmar has a recoil start assist similar to Stihl's Easy 2 Start; otherwise, I do not believe a 7 year old could pull over a 61 cc saw. So it seems at least one other mfg. has something similar to the Stihl system- thanks for posting that video!

    Good dealer support I feel is a very strong deciding factor. Even though I am now sold on dolmar and know there are wonderful dealers on here. Buying local when you can I think is important.
    There are so many great saws out there it makes it hard to choose. I wish I could have more but I don't think I can even use my current saws to their full potential.

    I don't think a 291 stihl will keep up with the echo 590. I just traded my 029 for my dolmar which is close to the 590 and the 029 is nowhere near the dolmar 6100.

    I generally just go by displacement for at least a rough comparison. Of course there are variations but then again, <most> saws are set up to extract pretty reasonable amounts of power from the engine so it makes basic sense that any decent, 'real' brand 60 cc saw will produce similar power to any other brand 60 cc saw. Talking about stock saws here of course.

    Ya they are awesome. They help me haul alot of the wood they even try and split it. I could brag all day about how great they are and wouldn't even be exaggerating.
    Here is my 9 year old practicing with the maul my father gave me 30+ years ago.

    Nope, that 029 should indeed bow to the 6100. But the 291 is a 3.8hp saw (same as a 029 Super or MS290) and the 590 I've seen advertised at 3.9hp. At 4.5hp, the 6100 will embarrass both of them for sure.

    Wow, you do not even give the kid a wedge? That is just plain mean.... :)

    Seriously though, your kids seem great and it is really nice to see them spending time with dad, doing the things that dad does (preparing firewood in this case). Congrats on the great family and the way you are raising them- it looks like they will all be adults you will be proud to have raised.

    My wife use this method to start the 461
    1) first call her sister and tell keep the saw down as strong as you can
    2) take the rope with two hands and pull like she want break the flywheel
    until now she never start it ........... maybe in the future
    :rofl: :lol::rofl: :lol::rofl: :lol::rofl: :lol::rofl: :lol::rofl: :lol::rofl: :lol::rofl: :lol::rofl: :lol::rofl: :lol::rofl: :lol::rofl: :lol::rofl: :lol:
