I take the time to limb & clear the trip hazards on one side .
    Square up the butt end.
Then put the rod on & walk the log marking as I go.

Remove & cut the logs to skidable size, skid to the truck, buck & load.
That way, I have all full length rounds, no short ones.

I like this idea but almost too ocd for me. As long as I'm 16"-17" I'm happy. I measured 16.5" out on my bar and it happens to be from the bumper spike to the hole in the bar you guys are using, on my 20" bar. Good enough for me. I limb as I go, but nothing a change to method wouldn't fix I guess. I may attempt to build something in my downtime when the temps get stifling hot.

No, never saw that vid, thinking they copied me. Mine I posted on u-tube, Jan 2010

HDRock gave me the idea of the earth magnet
    Original was 1/4" bolt with a wing-nut

Posted the utube a video in 2010 on another site

This page links to the original post: They have the original post "locked"
this site won't allow links to herth.com

Date uploaded to u-tube bottom left of pic:

Now; earth magnet, graphite rod for lightweight & pink duct tape for visibility,

If you have a system that works for you that's just fine, you don't have to have a measuring stick on your saw, but I do not see it is any kind of OCD it all, I see it as planning ahead and it works well for me and it is fast .
What I don't like is gathering up enough wood to load the stove and find three or four pieces are too long to fit

Wow ! bogydave , I read your other thread, I could hardly believe what I was reading

It looks a little dangerous to me
    Death wish
that jig wouldn't last 20 minutes
    :rolleyes::rofl: :lol::rofl: :lol:

I like the magnet mount , you can put it on take it off ,put it on other side quick, mine I can put anywhere on the bar only had it slip once , that was because there was metal shavings on the magnet

Oh yes, you are in some deep chit now Dave. ;)

It was requested by the powers that be over there that their name not be spoken here. Trust me, we've said our piece and moved on a long time ago.

    Cool.
I try to never stoop to the level of others.
If yow do to them , what they did to you, who's on higher ground.
& it shows they still have influence .

    Nuff said ,
I did bust out laughing though. (when ****** showed up as asterisks )
