Same here, I'll be pelleting for a while. Or resorting to wood burning while we are home and pellets to pick up the slack cause it starts on its own and is stat controlled.

Might be buying some big wood pellets this winta!! :D

Will, you have two pellet stoves. About how often do you anticipate running both? Consider a minisplit heat pump. Cheap heat and there are state credits in some places to help with the cost. Best way to heat and cool your space. My P68 \Burned about 6 tons for the season.

Watch this little chip, then go to the efficiency Maine web site. Lots of information there along with real cost comparison.

yea, good advice, but its still a tough decision. Right now, some of those deals are pretty good (gas, oil, etc), but the one thing we have no idea of, it what are those same fuels going to cost this winter. At least with the pellets you can bank and control your fuel, knowing what it cost you (kinda futures' program in itself, I guess)........as for oil, who knows? I think its still pretty cheap compared to electricity.

Then there is the health issue....yea, bad back, arthritis in the knees, etc., should certainly be factored in against the pellet price....your health is paramount, and hey, try as you might, you cant take all your money with you in the end.....

Larry I don't know yet ,this being the first year with 2 I'll have to see what works best . The up stairs stove runs 24 /7 in winter ,the wood burner ran about 12 - 14 hrs./ day during the week more when I was home to keep feeding it fuel :hair:.

for those with wood burning stoves in addition to pellet stoves you should look at supplementing wood with homefire prest logs. burns for up to 12 hrs. http://www.homefirelogs.com/

Just to clarify my point, I'm not saying that people should stop buying pellets or collecting cord wood.....I think some of that should always be on hand for just the situation you mentioned...we don't know if the $$ of oil/gases will stay low. But no one knows about the future pellet prices either.

Right now, filling the oil/propane tank seems the best option in my area (and I'm in NY....one of the very worst for energy prices), but having some tonnage of pellets is a "must have" too. If I still had a pellet eater, I'd have 3 tons on hand, and full propane tanks.

In the end, as we've always said, it's all about having money saving options to heat your home.

Jay, treat yourself to some La Cretes or North Country's from BT. You know you won't regret it. After the TSC sale ends in a couple weeks those pellets at BT are only going to cost $10 - $20 per ton more anyway.

It boggles my mind that Maine Choice sell for more than Maine Woods. I've tried the Maine Choice several times and thought they were junk.
