Didn't wanna like that post Slocum
But the truth is what it is.

I wish I could "innoculate" the trees on my property, or at least a portion of them.
I just don't know how much it would cost, or if it fully works.

I can try to find out what my friend uses and what it cost. I know he got his information though Purdue university.

That is the life cycle of the borers larvae. If you look at bottom of pic you can see how small it was when it started. Then at top of pic you can see where it bored it’s hole.

I still have a few ash that made it through but have not checked them yet this spring to see if they are still alive. But as of last year we still had some and surprisingly, most are along the creek and are quite small. Probably the largest live ash we have is about 12". I'll guard it well.

The ALB quarantines/eradications seem to be working here in Ma.

That's the only thing I could think of. Going to bring back a couple of loads of soft box elder for next shoulder season.

Small patch of woods on my way home from work, I’d say there are only 5 mature trees that are alive. The rest are ash.

    Yes. Quite typical and ugly.

I was back by the creek a couple days ago and we still have some live ash there.

I have two small 8-12" DBH healthy ash trees right outside my bathroom window in my neighbors yard. Glad to see they didn't get all of them. I have pulled a tree in from 200 yards away from my house that they had been through.

Thats exactly what it looks like here.
I just never knew how many ash trees we had. Its sickening to see so many dead trees here.

For those that dont have EAB
Here is the first really visible cue. The peeling bark.
(You could see the small holes in the bark if you were looking close...)

You can see them from a distance. 50-100 yards easy!

Another telltale sign is all the new suckers it will grow while trying to heal itself. But you need to be up close to see those. It is amazing on some trees how many of those suckers it will send out and then the tree next to it has very few. Strange.
