Standard artisan loaf recipe. But cook at 460 for 30 minutes with cover on then 10 more with the cover off
Gave it a rip tonight for dinner! My first time using coals on it. Used it on my grill top with a scrap of sheet metal I quick cut to fit with the sawzall. The cover off part with a little applewood grilled strips on the side Just a little guy, but wow! Just as a side note..... I’m on a strict Gluten free diet so it was gf through and through! I was the worlds biggest baked good lover until a few years ago when I was forced to change diets. That being said most gf breads and baked goods aren’t that good, but this was great!! I made the dough with gf flour and preheated the Dutch Oven to 375 in the oven. For a bit while the coals were burning off. Ended up 11 coals on the bottom and 22 ish on top. Turned the lid and oven every 10 minutes ended up baking it 35 minutes. Went uncovered and had the apple fire going and cooked the steaks with the lid of the grill down putting another 10 on the bread.
What do you folks use, or how do you remove the ash from the lid and or under the DO? I’ve seen little whisk brooms and stuff you can get, but wondered what the general consensus is?
Right out of the Lodge camp cooking handbook! Mountain man breakfast, done inside though since it’s blowing 40+ mph this morning. I sort of adjusted it a touch only feeding two adults and a 3 year old. Browned a pound of my homemade venison breakfast sausage. Then browned a pound of frozen hash brown taters in the sausage grease (had to use butter the sausage is pretty lean). Then put the sausage on the taters, beat 6 eggs dumped them in and topped with cheese. 20 minutes at 350 in the DO in the oven.
