The Cherry around here that big has scabby bark. And, while I was rooting around in the debris for more pieces, I noticed some of those little locust seed pods.

Yeah, looks like a honey locust hybrid. It's great fire wood.

Honey locust would have the long curly pods. My neighbor across the street had a young pin oak near the road that the power company took down, which looked very much like that. That could explain the leaves as well.

    Either way, nice score!

In a lot of the ornamental locusts typical of yard trees they bred out all the thorns and most of the pods.

They definitely are not native in NH. We have black locust, but not honey locust. The big trunk pieces got pushed by the loader into the brush pile, inaccessible now. I'll probably never get anymore in my lifetime.

Great score, any type of locust I've burned has been wonderful. Can you believe what some people throw away? :loco:

It's locust. I have a ton of it in the racks. Great firewood. Splits easy and dries way faster than oak.

Bring a bow saw... I have one that folds up...it will go through 6-8inchers pretty fast. Bigger stuff needs a chainsaw or a friend. Good haul. Going to the dump today myself for a little hoarding.
