    A lot of people didn't buy much last year, or at least certain goods, for a number of reasons, so they're exercising last years consumerism plus this year's. Just-in-time manufacturing doesn't always respond to (big) changes in consumption. When there's a lot of consumption the supply chains that are designed for a specific rate of consumption can't always keep up with more than 1x demand.
