Funny you should say that. The drive cable on my Toro self propelled mower just broke yesterday. I had to just push it. Good workout. $11 for a new cable, should be here tomorrow.

I think you can get two truck beds of it free per year. Tons of it.

I may or may not have used string on a Lawnboy for several years in replace of the broken cable.

Who has experience with splitting elm? I had some elm that was in log form and sat for 8 months. Extremely hard to split, like a high density foam. Is this normal or maybe was it punky? On the other hand, the elm split from the dump that was green split much nicer.

American elm is all I’ve ever split and I lived to tell about it. :) That happens to be the worst kind as far as splitting goes. Fresh cut it’s horrible but dead and barkless for a year or two it’s much better. Siberian is supposed to be much easier.

The Wood Wolverine does!

I avoid all elm for that reason. Ive had easy stuff once many years ago and it must've been the Siberian variety as Eric stated.

Lol, been a while since I posted these. :smoke::whistle: This happened both times I got any elm. 1st time, I tried waiting for a deep freeze and saw no difference in how it split.

Holy Schlitz, I thought sweet gum was bad! The biggest difference would be that elm will give significantly better BTU’s for the labor investment. AFAIK we don’t have elm here, at least I’ve not heard of or seen any.

The siberian Elm that was Green, split into perfectly rectangular brick shapes. The dry stuff, it's like splitting dense spray foam.

That's weird...totally opposite of how elm usually acts

Oh man asking this is like opening the ark at the end of Indiana Jones.

The New England hoarders are the worst—they only deal with perfectly straight, knotless oak that separates perfectly into 4” splits if you glare at it. ;)
