I have to agree Graham. I am going to be talking to a parks guy on Monday because there is a largish wild black cherry, Prunus serotina, threatening my underground power that is 6 inches on their side of the boundary line. I doubt they will do anything about it but I may be able to talk them into letting me drop it for them. The landing area for it is nice and clear so it will be an easy one to drop with almost no hazard.

Seeing this thrread is about downed wood, I thought this would be the place to show the results of a little cutting today on wood that was dropped at the end of December by a tree service. I have been fighting a nasty cold for a few weeks but today I found the ground somewhat firmed up and the sun was shining and wind blowing, perfect weather to start getting back to cutting. I put 2 tanks worth of gas thru my 192t and this is what the tops pile looks like. Mor DSC02049.JPG e work to follow.

    Thanks
It's new to me and so far it's a machine for my operation. The pivoting duellies lets me get over a lot of uneven terrain and rocks and logs while keeping the bed pretty level. The last trailer, I'd end up with yard sale every now and again.

That ash butt looks pretty darn straight. Might be a good candidate to split off chunks horizontally with a wedge after making a cut down one side.

...which is definitely easier to talk about from this comfy chair than it is to do in person. :D

Yes, I was thinking the same, might could split it along the length with a lot of wedges; sort of like splitting fence rails.

After we put in another two loads of wood I went back in looking for more better wood. Pictures 0027-0029 are of a topped off Maple, I think it's Sugar, pictures 0031-33 are a damaged Beech, picture 0034 is another damaged Beech, I grabbed the broken off part a year or two ago.

Pictures 0035-38 is another uprooted Sugar Maple I hope, it's just up the hill from the Beech and the rest of the pictures are from the branch that came off the old Sugar Maple.

This will give me a good start on getting the inventory back up to snuff. The Beech will come first and then the Maple up the hill from the Beech.

Very windy here today. Some have been strong enough I have been worried about a White Pine in front of our house. The wind is coming from Southwest and pushing Northeast. If it broke it could rip the power line right off the house. I need to take that tree down. It's too close to the house and power line.

I'll bet you have some newly downed wood by the time this is over thewoodlands.

Rather windy here last night but has been a calm day; these winds always worry me.
