Down she goes!

I was sitting working when I heard the sounds of a chainsaw running. Since I needed to refuel the stove, I decided to investigate. The sound was coming from the neigbhour up the street. Over the summer I watched this huge oak in their front garden slowly losing leaves as it was dying and knew that eventually it would be dead. A man wearing the proper equipment, helmet, chaps, etc had already used a Stihl to cut the notch and was well into the back cut. Dang, I wish I had known so I could have video recorded the drop. It was too late, the tree would be on the ground before I could retreat to the house and retrieve the camera. I noticed the man had the tree tied to the back of his truck; although I think if that tree had decided to go to the house it would have jerked that truck along as the tree was a massive one. The man stopped and set a wedge in the back cut on one side; I am guessing to help encourage the tree to not think about eating the house. He then continue the back cut and the tree came crashing down, throwing smaller limbs that broke off high into the air. I returned home to return to my work. I decided to write this post and walked back up the street to take a photo. He man had already started the limbing process. There is going to be a lot of good firewood from that tree.

 

Did you ask what is going to be done with the wood?

No; I figured that it had already been decided before the tree went down. I did think about offering to help in exchange for some of the wood.

 

I really wish I had a photo of the tree standing before it was dropped so you could better see the size of it. Maybe I can find it on Google.

 

You might be disappointed that you didn't ask if you see a chipper over there shredding up 10 20 inch logs

 

Well, most of the tree is still there so I can inquire tomorrow.

Apparently Someone bought the vacant house down at the other end of the road.
I didn't even know they were going to be cutting trees, I go down the road I see two trees cut down and a big truck full of chips, nothing left of them

I always go looking when I hear a chainsaw running. That's how I've come into the possession of about 2 cord of red and white oak mix, from right next door.
