Out of the blue, I decided to do the dolla bill test on the door gasket tonight as I was getting a fire going.
Lo and behold............dang thing slid right out w/o much effort. :hair::picard: Tight in a couple spots, but top and bottom were fairly loose.
So, time to get an order in and get it changed out before it gets real cold out.

I Don't know the 30's but just to mention it. My Buck I thought was a little loose once last year but it was only on the latch side of the door. I adjusted the latch to draw tighter and also squeezed the gasket from the sides with my fingers and had a tight seal again. Just checked it before the burn season this year and tight all around.

I should do that test also, mine is a little ragged around the latch but seems to be okay, we will see after I check it
Mine's pretty hot right now ST about 400 , I was just thinking it might make a difference if checking hot or cold.
Anyway I'm all set to replace it if needed, last time I bought an extra door gasket and have two tubes of Maaco gasket cement

That's a good reminder about squeezing the sides I've done that before and got her sealed up real nice

Hey LP, you musta been reading my mind or something. I did that gasket squeeze trick right after posting. Seems to have helped quite a bit.
I ordered a new gasket anyway. Here's a nice little jab re: ESW shipping costs, and probably why I tried a local gasket a while back..........$14.55 for the gasket (which isn't too bad, I guess), and over $22 to ship it. WTH.
    Let me repeat that.....WTH?

That's ridiculous, they could ship that in an envelope ,I know what you mean though I ordered some parts at the dealer (Konieczka) from the manufacturer, snap disc and some pins, shipping was crazy I had to pay.
Good thing is They have the gaskets in stock all the time, they have them in big rolls, $30 for what I need

Local "mom and pop" grocery put in an ACE in the back of their building a couple years ago. I could get one there, or the local hardware.
I have options, but none as good as the original.

I’m trying Dirko (high temp rtv-like silicone that Stihl and other companies use in engine components) this year. I’ve used Rutland gasket cement the last 2 gaskets and wanted to try something different.
It’s rated to 600+ so we’ll see how it holds up. If I get 2-3 years with it then I will be happy. $12.99/ tube from Stihl dealer.

Dirko looking good after 3 months of burning. The real test will be how it looks a year from now.

Since I just got a like on a post in this thread from 2017 I will comment. Decided to order a new gasket for the door vs just pinching it together. So far I wish I would have left well enough alone. I got one straight from Buck, even bought the silicone they say to use. Cleaned the channel well, silicone full cure 24 hrs. Put it back on, can pull a dollar bill out easy with the door latch adjusted all the way. Soooooooo I do believe one of two reasons to be the culprit, either they sent the wrong size rope or they put a lot more silicone in the channel than I did or both. Whatever, I might as well have took my 18.00 plus shipping and stuck it up a pig's a$$ and hollered suey ! I just received from ebay a Rutland Graph-Glas gasket and more silicone. Supposed to warm up Wed. so I will go again. Once I get this gasket off I will know the culprit to my issue.

Just did a little comparing. I do believe I see the issue. Top picture is the old gasket on the left, gasket from Buck in the center, new Rutland gasket on the right. Next set of pictures is the same gaskets but turned a quarter of a turn. They have somewhat of flat side and an edge. I did not notice this when installing the new one but also I believe the new one is a smidge smaller (probably technically both are listed as 3/4 inch). The Rutland looks comparable and likely the same brand as the original. So when I redo this I will be careful to stand it on it's edge and also use more silicone to make sure it protrudes from the channel. Results to follow in a few days. 20181029_205653.jpg 20181029_205737.jpg

Much better now, got the new seal on last night and let it cure today. Just put the door back on and the handle and you have to push in pretty good to latch the door. Started to rip a $20 dollar bill testing the seal all around...….gooder to go.

I replaced the glass gasket on the Napoleon last year but I didn’t use the proper thickness and I was getting some leaks. Ordered up the right one and it showed up at 8 pm tonight(UPS burning the midnight oil). Project was quick, only took one beer, but hopefully makes a difference. The stove didn’t seem to be throttling back as far as I remember. Hopefully this fixes the issue. Going to light one off now and see how it goes. Cheers!

So I woke up this morning with a “aha!” Moment. I bought the updated glass retainers more than a year ago and completely forgot last night when I was doing the gasket. They were stuffed away in the basement. Man, can’t wait to see how forgetful I am in 20 more years! Anyways put the retainers in place and everything seems a lot tighter. Guess Napoleon added them in later years. Mine only had the bottom retainer and two small tabs on top. Now I have pressure on the gasket all the way around.

I seem to be having issues with my stove door gasket. I have a replacement on the way which was ordered from SBI (stove is an Osburn 2200). I thought I could get away with pinching up the current gasket until it arrived. However this morning my stove went nuclear on me. I got it calmed down after a while but it has me worried.

I picked up a replacement gasket from a local farm supply store. The problem is my door calls for a 7/8" gasket and the biggest the store had on stock was a 3/4" gasket. Would this be okay to get me through a few days until the new one arrives? If I have to I figured I could scrunch it up real tight to try to get a good seal.

    Any input would be appreciated.

After some inspection it doesnt seem as though the current gasket has any silicone under it. Surely I would think it has been replaced in the past but I'm not entirely sure about that. I can't imagine it would come from the factory that way.

Anyway I was wondering, if the 3/4" would not be sufficient to get me through a few days, could I maybe just flip the current one?
