The 7910 has an inboard clutch, so he could just bring along an extra bar and chain... if it gets pinched, just pull the powerhead off and throw on the spare B&C. Just don't get the second bar stuck before the first is free. Lol

This is true. But having 2 saws is always a plus. Lol. Or 10 whatever! :dex:

Another option that hasn't been mentioned is to port the 6100. But then your into the similiar money as the 7910. I guess it comes down to how heavy of a saw do you want to swing around if you don't need a 28" bar very often. Alot of ways to skin the cat here IMO.

Maybe this way - run 6100 until good and broken in- then gut that cat type muffler and retune slightly

It still won't pull a 28" bar, or oil it.

Never said it would. I run 6400 and 7900 as my go to saws for 90% of what I do 20-32" bars, all bar's oil ports are opened up making sure that the oil port on the bars line up with the supply port on the saw. Have had some bars where the alignment was way off, starving the bar and chain of oil. cat muffs are more trouble than they are worth- melted the oil pump on a 6400 last year equiped with a cat muf. The non cat units never had an issue like that. around 15 cord css a year +/- all decent hardwood no conifer.

Please tell who swapped out the OEM muffler on your 6100 for a "cat"? Having enjoyed quality time with my 6100 for a year+, I can tell you it has a pretty free-breathing open can for a muffler. Sings a nice high tenor note at its peak. Just about broken-in now. Only took about 40-50 hrs runtime, but who's counting? (An hour of runtime will generate a couple bushels of chips.)

I regularly run a 24" bar on mine (with a SHARP chain) and the 6100 handles it nicely in oak/maple/hickory. Don't stand to the rear of it with your mouth open.

I think the hippy has 28 and 32" bars in that mount.

What on earth do you want to run a small-mount 32" on? West Coast 262XP?  Perhaps a 362/65 with a big top end?

    Probably a 6100 with full wrap or a 2260.

Kinda asking a lot of either powerhead IMHO, maybe well-ported examples would do OK.

But what do I know, I'm way too far East for that kind of thing.

Depends on what you like. West coast 60cc saws normally have 28" bars. I think they'd do fine with port work and semi skip chain.

Have you noticed how long you can cut on a tank of gas?
And yes, a proper chain will allow you to run a 24" with no issues..
    I'll bet that 6100 don't really notice a difference from a 20 to a 24.

    And I own 2-7900's..
    And love em.

I don't even like a 24" on my 562. My ported 357xp pulls a 24" pretty good, though. I can't see any reason to run a longer bar than that on a 60cc.

I can't see anything other than a 24" bar on any saw in hardwood on that size saw. Must be a super nasty port job to pull a 30+" bar!!

    Depends on the chain. I'd probably give a 28" a try on a 6100. There's only 3 more cutters from 24". I like the longer reach of a 28".

Dealer on Chainsaw Repair site was selling full wrap 6100 for $569. Half wrap was cheaper but cant remember what it was. He had heated handle 5105 and heated handle 6400 saws too.
