A good load this morning. Mixture of Oak, Mulberry, Cherry and Elm. This was all standing dead or blow downs from fence rows etc. [IMG][IMG]

I have a 855d gator diesel. It’s not fast, but it’s got torque. I love the thing.

I use the SxS pretty much always. Since in doesn't have a belt I use it also to yank out the tree out of the woods to buck up.

I sold our last round of ATVs and bought our Polaris General for both recreation and utility... but had more utility work lined up for it than recreation. It was to pull our Polar trailer full of wood, pull the splitter and pull the chipper. After less than a year, I had another ATV on order and this past fall I sold the General and went back to two ATVs. The reason being, the General's shortfalls maneuverability wise doing utility work. Despite being the Ride Command edition General with both from and rear cameras like a fancy car, the blind spots were too much for me. I find it is so much easier to look over my shoulder on a quad and check clearance on a tight trail and even more so when backing up. Now I know why whenever I see commercials for utility SXSs, they are always on a farm or wide open ranch where I'm sure they would shine. In my experience though, working in the trees and on small trails is better with an ATV.

You gotta admit, it's about the toys and get that in your thinking. A logger uses his skidder (atv) to get the logs to the trail. Then the forwarder (UTV) gathers them up and moves them to the landing (processing area).
    Get with it man.

LOL, I follow. A tool for every job as it were... But joking aside, I think it's all about how your property is laid out. Unless a tree is enormous, I generally buck it where it falls then load it into my trailer to bring to my shed area for splitting. If it is huge, I split it where it falls. Either way, not enough room for a SXS to work comfortably. On my property, the only place the SXS really worked well was on the lawn and I'm not dropping, chipping or splitting there... For others, I'm sure it works great though!

5 degrees Fahrenheit this morning but I had the day off so I went cutting. If I can get out onto the trails and cut standing dead, I'll save the wood in my stacks for times when I cant.
Load of Red Elm limb wood. The big stuff goes into brothers or parents boilers.[IMG][IMG]

I finally got the ATV running smoothly and bought a trailer rated for 1000lbs to help bring firewood in.
So much nicer than pulling a wagon through the woods.

Yep. I no longer need to climb up on top of that slippery, unforgiving JD MT.
