Does Stihl still make a carbureted version of their MS362?

The 400 is totally worth the extra 100 bucks! Think about how long you’re likely to have this saw and divide that 100 bucks by that number of years… Yeah it won’t take long and your going to completely forget you paid the extra money for it.

I agree. I generally keep power equipment (and guns) forever. Still have the first saw I ever bought, my 021 back around 1999ish. The MS400 wasn't on my radar until I held one side by side with the MS362. They feel like the same saws to me.

They are kinda, 400 is based on the 362 but they made some case changes so the cylinder won’t swap. Lots of the hard parts will interchange between the 400 and 362 along with the 311/391 ranch saws.

Like Chris said they are essentially. Except that a stock ms400 has more horse power than a stock 044 according to at least one dyno. After around 5-10 tanks or so they really break in nicely and rip.

I was looking through the Stihl catalog and noticed under the MS362/400C they have a 22 inch, 3/8, .063, RS bar listed. I've never seen or heard of anyone running a 22" b&c. Is it an oddball length? Is it harder to get loops for?

    Thanks, NYH1.

That is a strange length and I’ll check into it see if they’re trying something new. Should say the drive count on the listing. 20” Stihl or husky bar is 72 drivers so the 22” should be about 76.

    I have a few 22" bars.....imo it's a good idea.
I'm always wishing my 20" bars were just a bit longer, but many saws start to get kinda nose heavy w/ 24" bars on em.
Lehman is right, mine use a 76 dl chain, I was able to order the chains online no problem, and any shop that makes up their own loops can obviously make any length you want.

Ive never heard of a 22" Stihl bar. When i bought my 361 used it came with a 22" Carlton bar which i dint intend to use at first. Once i did i loved it. Not as unwieldy as a 25" and able to cut some bigger logs.
Turned out it was .058 bar and i was running .050 chain. Started cutting crooked from wear.

I hope I remembered this correctly..here's a trick if you can't find any indication of what gauge your bar is :

    Dime - 50 gauge
    Penny- 58 gauge
    Quarter - 63 gauge

    I think that's right.

People running .325 Stihl chains will need to start watching when they buy more chains now. Stihl is using a lot of .050 .325 instead of .063 like they did. Also this is a new cutter profile and slightly different chassis that’s supposed to cut 18% faster then the old stuff on a ms261

Unless it’s a trilink bar they’re all .063 no matter what it’s stamped thing was the sloppiest piece of junk I ever used. Lucky it was free and just a test along with a couple chains.

.325/.063 on my 026, 261, 028 and .375 .050 on bigger saws. Does the new cutter profile have a new Stihl name? Picco, micro etc

new line up of bars also, no idea exactly what’s changed other than the paint on some but others state how many rivets are in the tip hence the 04 and 06 for 4 and 6 rivets.
