You are correct. M is for M-tronic. You can go to the Stihl manual website and see the different models. The 261 and 261C are one manual. The 261C-M is a separate manual. Same goes for numerous other saws. Just so happens that currently all Mtronic pro saws are also Comfort saws.

Wasnt aware of them being available with the Q designation. There's an older 036 with the quick stop on FBM in my area.

Empty out the gas and replace it with Stihl canned gas see what it does when you start it, then run it through the Calb. treatment.

One other confusing thing is some of the homeowner level saws have the C designation too. 211c, 251c etc. My understanding was this was for the tool free chain adjuster.

There are several comfort features. The chain adjuster is one of them. It is hard to find a place that they actually nail down what comfort features are available. This is about the best I have found to highlight a few of them.

I think one issue is if they were to put all of the applicable letters on the pull start cover, some saws could end up with a good portion of the alphabet on there. I think it can also be like many things in that some items are considered features until they are made standard “options”. Think about shoulder harnesses on seatbelts in cars. At one time, they were an option for anyone who wanted added safety. But now, they are pretty much standard on most new vehicles. I don’t know enough about the quick stop feature to know if it’s standard or not right now. But I wouldn’t be surprised if, for liability purposes, they included it on every saw.

I know the MS290 had a model with the Q feature. Met a guy who owned one. It can get confusing at times. :picard:
