Tam, you could gather those noodles, set a cupcake pan on the stove top (lined or unlined), add the noodles and a chunk of wax from old candles (or get the scented wax cubes on clearance, Clarence) to each cup, and in a few minutes....voilĂ ! Fire starters that will decimate your kindling and bring a far to life in 5minutes flat! Aaaannnd- check this out, All... Live from the 2017 MI GTG @ Backwoods Savage's
Funny how you could ship a container and label it "kitchen utensils bulk" label it for the air force base near me and I can grab it via channels. Eh im probably just spitballing here but loopholes...loopholes everywhere.
I end up starting a lot of cold fire so yeah, I use kindling but I put it in the top about 3 pics across the top of the splits with Firestarter square in the bottom. Pallet wood Shagbark Hickory bark, cedar fence rails, Pine boards, popular, Splitter trash, whatever I got around. Ceder I used up this winter I got some stuff left over in the kindling box on the deck
I still use kindling. Not near as much with the IS though. We used a lot with the Fireview, but the IS almost always has a coal bed left even after a long day at work. This load of kiln dried should last me several years
I use a lot of kindling. I am even on the 2 year plan with my kindling. I will have to post pics when I get a chance.
I use kindling but only about 3 small sticks per relight for cold stove plus a small piece of fire starter so takes no time to get the stove going...Top down fire....
I use construction of cuts as kindling as well usually Radiata pine I think you guys call it Monterey pine. I get mine from a roof truss manufacturer near work. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I need to start another bin like you got. This lumber yard box is ridiculous as it churns out that kind of kindling you got there. Lots. I just loaded up today. Im getting selective. Mostly its depending on if I have the room for it. Im often faced with this dilemma since I need to set up another pallet box...or just add to the existing one.
When you ask if kindling is still used, I immediately think of white cedar split up very small for fire starts. Used it religiously until a few years ago when I switched over to fire starters. Now I just split some hardwood into small pieces and let the fire starter do the trick. But yes, I still do have cedar around....
Well for me its both. Use a 2 oz cup like the ketchup cups and fill it with your saw noodles. I give em a wax sprinkle to make them sticky. Then little more wax the its done. Top with a little dust if needed. I then light that and get my cedar skewers ready on top. Fill until roaring.
Kindlining for me. Aint gonna pay for far starter stuff when it grows on trees. Then there is all the old barn wood to make use of.
That thar blue stuff is my secret chemical weapon to dump on the kindling to make even easier starts to my fires
Oh yeah, absolutely use kindling here. When I see a new house being framed out, will beg small framing ends from the guys and split those down with a hatchet. Also dumpster dive nice dry hardwood discards at a cabinet shop. Working on top down cold starts in the IS (so frequent during shoulder season) using a single sheet of newspaper. I see no reason to waste what junk that would otherwise just be tossed into a landfill.
