I do almost always. Sometimes test cutting or something I dont. Which some of my gods I am not as I was test cutting. I have been wearing them since my early 20s and I'm early 30s now. Had one time I was tired and a spinning g chain grabbed my chaps in the thigh. Cut the nylon face open and grabbed just one strandof kevlar. Tucked it all back up and the ripped mnylon is there on the thigh to remind me. Cut into the toe of a boot onetime. Did not hit my toes as it was a high toe cap. Scared me to death. I they now to always have steel in those toes too now.
Labonville chaps are the best I've seen. I don't know if they're any bigger or not.I have a pair of woodland pro.
On Saturday night? No. When I'm running a chainsaw? YES! A close call cut my Levis but spared my flesh.
"I don't wear anything but glasses an ear plugs milling"… any of the neighbors ever complain bout the naked man playing with power tools…
I can honestly say I never thought of chaps quite like that before… … after some time thinkin about it… I LIKE EM …
I didn't for many years and was very lucky....good friend bought me a pair about 8 years ago and I generally always wear them. I got in a hurry one evening about 3 years ago because I only had a couple hours of daylight when I got to the woods. Brought the chainsaw down and it just snagged my jeans, put about a 2" hole....good wake up call.
Dammit anyway Sav.....you heard those guys say the chicks like a man with chaps. At least with the ear protection you won't hear yourself as well when you draw blood.
90% of the time I do......... The only time I don't is when I'm splitting and need to trim a piece down real quick.
Never have worn them ,seems like more injuries happen with shorter bars ,i am back from the work most of the time with a 32
I'm happy to see some honesty, I haven't cut a lot of wood, maybe 2 cords in my life, I haven't worn them, don't know that I have ever seen anyone wear them. I'm planning on getting some only because I can see getting complacent after a long day of repetitiveness. I'm not a safe person, but I'm always cautious, if that makes any sense. Don't rib the guys that don't wear the full ppe, they're either cautious or they're participating in natural selection like our friend in the video who didn't drop his smoke. I promise that the awesome graphic above (thanks loon!!) includes wood hoarders and side job arborist, but I believe the guy in that video and his friends make up the majority. I do wear muffs and glasses, and like I said, I'll be getting some chaps, but I'll aslo be driving the the woodsite w/o my seat belt, and cutting with a sharp, well lubed saw and being cautious, while dodging texting drivers. Heck, might even drink a beer or two before I leave to come home. This post has convinced me to get chaps and wear them. I'm always curious, because in my job, sometimes safety gets so blown out of proportion I think sometimes it in itself creates an unsafe environment. Again, I do appreciate the input and honesty, and I have been convinced, especially since I am an inexperienced (although not your average homeowner)woodcutter. As always, happy to have found this fourm!
