The 390/5 is a heck of a saw as is the 661 but unless he is gonna stay in big wood I think a 90cc saw is overkill for him. May as well save the $300 unless he is buying used then it will vary.

He is cutting everything now with an 026 and a 20" bar!!!! The 70cc saws will blow his mind!! And he can then return back to a shorter bar for faster work of smaller trees. There is a few pounds more to heft when you get in the 90cc size. It will be like 2 of those 026s he is holding. The 460/1/2 will be a bit smaller chasis and weigh a bit less as would a 372xp.

Just my two cents. If you want a 90cc saw for the must have factor or want factor get it you will wish you always did later.

I'm sure miller would take a money order. There like cash and there only like $0.30-90 for you to buy one. Shipping its not that much. Really not worth unconvincing a buddy or you to save $32 on shipping.
Dont they make you pay taxes or something to bring it back to the US?

I was talking about $30 to ship the saw from miller. Instead of asking a buddy to get it or you planning a trip to some random area to get it.

clem I like your .02 how I learn, :D is an 026, a 260 pro? just looked up johnny:( was a 670 super 2 1990 ish, he had a 24" Oregon bar and what I cut big stuff with definitely more power little stihl, that's what I want to replace maybe a little bigger he slowed down in big maple. I have no idea on what chain was on him. I don't want a 90cc I don't need biggest or baddest, just right tool for job. and mr. miller said he didn't use his 90 much. one of my many saying is learn from others because I won't live long enough to make all the mistakes myself.

Yea an 026 is just the older version of the ms260. Same saw they just swapped numbers in the early 00s.

I wonder if that jonny you had was the same saw as the husky 365 which is a defined 372xp. Only difference is transfer ports. Same piston and cylinder both are 71cc. The husky 576 is 75cc I think maybe 76?? The 460/1/2 is 75cc as well. The 660/1 is 92cc and the 390/5 is that same ball park.

Not sure what chain you ran on it but you can go to semi skip chain and get some of that chain speed back in those longer bars. Even full skip if your at the limit of the saw.

I'll give you another two cents worth. I own both Stihl and Dolmar, have run the 044/046/440/460 series saws and the 6400/7300/7900 Dolmars on several occasions, just as a homeowner and avid firewood cutter, not as a pro. All things being equal, I would choose the 7910 Dolmar stock over a Stihl MS461 because I simply like the saw better. Also, I have at least four Stihl dealerships within ten miles of my house, but I drive 20 miles to my Dolmar dealer because they care about their customers and know that the power of good customer service will cause people to spend money. If you have a Stihl dealer near you that has been around a long time, knows their business and their product and you have a good relationship with, then maybe you'd be better off with the Stihl.

I know my next saw will be a Dolmar or Makita (same saw, different color). Unless someone wants to donate an 80cc+ Stihl to me..... :D

This is different than a toy, you did 10 cords this year (and reclaimed some living space in your house). Would a big saw make it easier for you? Is it totally out of the budget or could you swing it? I could be wrong but I would say go for it if it were me.

    I like this thinking.
As soon as it's financially possible, I'd like a better/faster saw so I can get done cutting quicker, or cut the same amount of time but get more done.

The Rancher does well, but it's heavier than it needs to be for the power it has. Same size saw with at least another HP, and I'll think I've gone to firewood scrounging heaven.

Wildwest, first you are a FHC, treasure! just saying. yeah, it's another tool, yes it would make about 12 cord of logs around here useful firewood. and I will get 3 years ahead this year. but that puts me at 45 cord css. or about 40 more than what's done now. I got to get one I have learned that. what's hard about it, is me, if it were for wife, daughter or dog it would be done by now. as for budget, I am like most people when I really need it I will find money for it.

Thank you. It's probably a good idea though, since your bride now knows/appreciates wood heat and the $$ savings. Just sayin'...

Does that new SLR muffler really drop the dolmar 7910 down to 5.7 hp from the 7900's 5.9hp(specs from dolmars website) or is there something else going on? Btw, Canadian, I went with a stihl 461 after running good 50cc and 60cc saws. I really enjoy the 76cc of power and since I'm not known for cutting all day, more like 2 to 3 hrs at a time, I don't mind the added weight. The 7910(or 461) would make you smile for a long time imo.

I don't have a dyno but I can see that. The nice thing is if you look at those specs a simple MM will gain that back. Not to metion. I weighed one before and after removing the SLR system. You muffler becomes .2 lbs lighter. .2 more horsepower and .2 lbs lighter. Sounds like a win win. Lol
