I'm just glad he specified wood STACKS. If it just said 'Do I have the hottest wood' I was NOT going to click on it!
I never thought of that Dave. It had only been CSS for 11 weeks when I took that picture. However it had been a dead stander that had then fallen over in to a billabong, when I was splitting it I used my old moisture meter and the splits ranged from 20 to 25%. I am in no hurry to burn it, that is my primo firewood! I have lots of other stuff to burn first. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It hit around -4°F here in the wee hours this morning, the coldest it's been in quite a while. Wind chill was around -18°F. I never did a IR probe on my covered stacks in the summer, but I know it gets REALLY hot right under the black rubber roofing I use for a top-cover. I'll have to remember to do that this coming summer. As for the hottest wood today, I'd say you definitely win!! Great post, leoht!
No doubt about it leoht, that is hot. I've only been in that kind of heat a couple times and was very happy to get out of it! Now if you could possibly send half of you heat to meld with what we have, we'd both be more comfortable.
That's a great thought!! I'd be really happy to meet somewhere in the middle as well, Dennis. It's still too cold here and way to hot there.
Rather the cold. At least you can dress for it. If you dress for the kind of heat that leoht is bearing, you might get arrested ....
I think that the cold would have to be worse, however both can be extremely dangerous. When we get weather like we had on Saturday bushfires become almost impossible to control. We were lucky this weekend that there weren't any fires near us but it makes for a nervous day. While up there your roads were/are covered in ice, down here the roads have literally melted! Brother lived by you a few years back leoht and said winters here were a little different than down there. While North America freezes, Sydney swelters through its hottest day in almost 80 years
I hear it's hot up in the northern hemisphere, so I think it's time to bump this thread back in to life. Let's see those IR thermometers and stack temperatures. My stacks are currently only 47F with the exception of what's in the stove. I really want to see Scotty Overkill's rubber covered stacks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You'll have to wait till the sun comes back out here. Pretty wet and ugly today. Took this pic Monday. Highest I've ever seen on this thermometer
Wow! Anything above about 80*, I have to lock up all my sharp or pointed tools in fear of hurting myself intentionally
Yeah, it's been warm up here in the northern hemisphere. What temps are you dealing with down under leoht ? I'll have to remember to get some wood stack temp checks once I get back home.
We had a few good frosts last month. Then last weekend I went camping with a few friends and it got down to 28F -2C overnight. We didn't stray far from the fire that night I tells ya. Daytime high temperatures are usually 42F to 50F but almost always damp. I am looking forward to summer again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wish I'd have remembered this post the other day, we were close to 100°F here, I'm betting the top of the stacks were at least 10° higher!!
leoht coldest I have ever been was near Ayers rock in winter, in a tent with some rain at 2 Celsius or 35 Fahrenheit. I've skied at 40 below, with right clothing. Great thread!!
