Our pond has gone through some stages. Right now it is in a massive bluegill population stage. I have five grandchildren that love to fish. You can dang near put a bare hook in the pond and catch something. Off of the floating pier, bluegill anywhere from finger sized to big as my hand and thicker. On the South end are some crappie, have caught and released two this past summer that measured 16.5 inches long. As the kids age, will put in some more bass (there are some in there) and make it more quality versus quantity. But right now, it is for the kids and who as a kid wants to wait and watch a bobber float? It is a hoot. Youngest daughter and her husband own property on a private stocked lake. Great fishing and great sized fish and they have a wonderful fishing boat. Ask their daughter, where you want to go fishing? "Bop's" (that's me!). That's why it is in the stage it is in. Good luck with your pond and your family. I do worry about them as they are riding their bikes down the lanes to the pond, it is a safety concern like the stud horse and breeding jack we have on the farm along with the other hundred inherited risk. We try to manage it and have set rules and limitations.
Shame you are so far away. If I could send you a half dozen northen pike, they would be happy to manage your bluegill population. Mother nature's planned parenthood system.......................
