My wife has also been eyeing up that middle seat.....she likes to be right against me, which I'm fine with.....just not when I'm driving!

20200118_074201.jpg Picked this 350 up last year. Wish I would have looked harder for a zf6 truck. Other then that I got no complaints.

Its got a date with a Sam Wyse built 4r100 in the next few weeks. Should be about perfect after that. 185k miles and stock other then a 38R and 6637 filter.

These manual transmissions are rare as hens teeth. IIRC GM stopped making them in ‘06, Ford in ‘08 and Ram in ‘18 it is sad.

Today coming down through the pass, wind was drifting the snow pretty bad, was glad I had stick and exhaust break. 0A354B20-CD51-473C-91DB-CFD9379E0DAE.jpeg This is Mt Sanford, drove down the Glenn to Anchorage.

I used to love the 6 speed powerstroke combo. 4 years driving a 13 speed wrecker in Boston traffic apparently was enough shifting for a lifetime for me.

Funny this thread popped up, looking at selling my 03 mazda wagon (wet weather commuter) and my 93 ford f150 (300 inline 6, 4wd ex cab and 5spd) to buy a 99-03 7.3 psd. Hate to part with the inline 6, but would be nice to get a crew cab 4door as we have 3kids, and my new tandem axle 14’ trailer is pretty darn heavy. Anything to watch for? I talked my dad into one, I am stuck on the 7.3 for reliability. Budget is 10-13k, which is 200-300k miles range. Must be 4wd, and Im pretty hardonthe 4door as well. I’d prefer a 6dpd manual as well. Found one a few hours away. Leary of the auto as I’ve seen my share of broken ones.

Not sure if it's an issue where you're from, but the 7.3 oilpans are prone to rotting. The engine has to come out to replace it.

Aside from that, they're pretty bullet proof.

Im in California, so no rust unless its a vehicle from back east. We get spoiled with rust free cars. I had one vehicle from back east that had rust...never again!!! Too many nice ones to mess with a rust bucket. Thanks for the advice! Didn’t know you had to pull the motor for a pan. Ugh.

If you can find a great deal on an auto trans truck, I personally wouldn't pass it up...they can be built up to be pretty darn reliable!
The first time I towed with a 7.3 PS auto trans I didn't expect much...but I came back home with a whole different attitude toward it...was impressed!

We had (have) a 99' 7.3, well over 500K miles now and like you know out there, no rust.
Not sure how tall your wife is Reddingnative , by the time an average height woman gets the seat close enough to engage the clutch, a couple gears in that super tall stick shift is literally behind them (me), can get around fine but longer drives become a pita reaching behind in those gears. Also, a pita to get stuff in and out, and tailgate is even higher.

On the fence about Auto vs manual. My current truck and car are manual. She doesn’t drive them much as she has a 2013 4runner. That’s our “family rig” and her daily driver. It will pull our trailer if needed, but not optimal. She will likely use the truck once a year or so. She is fine driving a truck with a boat oar manual, but really won’t have to drive it much.
