I did this alot back in the day with gas engine cars.
Only thing I'd add is be sure you have an decent water temp gage.
Too much coverage and you'll be watching a mini Old Faithful.o_O

For every person that is willing to pay the what, $10k for a diesel, theres probably at least 2 that would be willing to pay a little more for a gas engine with balls.

When I ordered my 1999 Superduty, it was $3K for a Powerstroke, and $300 for the V10. I didn't need the diesel, as I didnt tow often enough, but the V10 certainly fit the bill at 10% of the cost.

is this (in part) due to the engine being in the frame before the body goes on?

Thanks :) There is a real gauge in there, not a dummy light, and I'm pretty good at watching my gauges too. LOL kinda habit after driving temperamental vehicles for so long  , or , not sure.

Yes, and no. Some fleets are realizing that gas engines are cheaper to operate, so they have made the switch. I don't think the automakers have invested anything in making diesels more efficient for pick ups. They still average around 15 like they did back in the 80's when diesels first came out. They only thing they have "improved" on diesels is the tailpipe emissions and add power. On the other hand, look at gas engines. A half ton can get average in the upper teens. What did they get back in the 80's? Maybe 12 or 13? The mileage the gas and 3/4 and 1 tons has improved too. Semi trucks like a Freightliner Cascadia are averaging over 7mpg, put 20,000lbs behind a diesel pick up and see what it gets. I bet it would be close to what a cascadia will do. You know a diesel pickup can do better. I think for the guy that drives his diesel truck and does not use it, he will continue to pay more for a diesel truck. If we get some real healthy gassers, that may start to change.

The early duramaxs came with a cover to go over the grill. It may not hurt to check with the gm dealer to see if one is available and how much.

Thank you, I called today. He knows what you described but they are not available now, suggested aftermarket. Or, cardboard lol. Either way, glad to get another few degrees of heat whether aftermarket cover or cardboard.

Can you or others here talk about the "stick on" self adhesive snaps on the Fia?

Ready to pull the trigger on this one: OEM Type Winter Front 2003 2004 2005 2006 GMC Sierra 2500 3500 Duramax winterfr | eBay

I like the hooks on the bottom on this one for the crazy winds out here, and I looked, I do have the 2" grill spacer on my truck. It's $4 more ebay but paypal checkout etc is easy there for me... Think I could take in on/off twice a year by myself when needed.

I called the bugscreen guy, very nice and he calls customers personally, rare and neat deal these days. I ended up with the more expensive one. Not worth it to me to buy the less expensive one and though I could be wrong, I don't see the stick on snaps making it through the first winter with the crosswind heres, so metal buckle loops on bottom and studs up top on the engine compartment frame will hopefully do the trick.

    Thanks All!!!

I went to the Cleveland auto show this past weekend. A lariat F350 ccsb had a retail of 70k. The GMC equivalent was $69k. The interior on the rams was very nice. The value just isn’t there in my opinion.

I’m planning on dumping my 05 f350 and 08 2500hd for a used ‘18 F350 next year some time. I was planning to get a lariat, but might have to get an XLT to fit my budget of 45k or so. Stupid trucks.

The real problem is people buying them at these obscene prices. 1980 decent truck 4x4 under $20k, 2000 Might be able to stay under $30k since then it has been a free for all on who can charge the most. Got to love getting charged extra for an automatic when no manual is available on some models.
pick ups seem to be the bread and butter of the companies and they are taking full advantage of same.
