    Longer stroke = more torque

    Hence Cummins wins hands down.

Ok all you Ford diesel guys, I gotta question-
My 2002 F-250, 7.3 does a "thing" when warming up. Some people say it's probably "this" or "that", but most say it's a new one for them.
Note it has straight through exhaust that splits to become dual, so it's got a unique exhaust note.
When warming up, it will kick up a few hundred RPM (1100) and something opens/closes so the exhaust sounds like a jet. A quick blip on the throttle will return it to normal idle, but it will do it again. What is causing that?

The 7.3 PS has a valve (EBPV) on the exhaust that closes to cause back pressure, which helps things warm up faster...and yes, it will idle up and make "turbo noises" during...and when its real cold out you will not even have control of the engine speed with the throttle pedal until the engine warms for a minute....

Thank you. As long as it's supposed to do that I'm good. Gotta ask, my first diesel and all.

This truck was a rental truck. I am wondering if the PCM had a special calibration since it was a rental truck that makes it a dog.

They also have a low compression diesel.

We have numerous 6.4 hemi dodges in our fleet at work. Detunned is an understatement.

We also have several 6.2L, 13.5k laiden and they perform as expected. Great engines.

Maybe the manufactures have a special calibration for a fleet trucks. I know a guy that works for the phone company and his truck Ram 4500 with a cummins. He said it is dead taking off, almost to the point of dangerous but once it is up and moving it is fine. I think the torque management is too sensitive.

You can wire a switch in to close that ebpv as an exhaust brake too.

Sounds intriguing. I wouldn't mind having that if I could operate it manually.

You can, just an on off rocker switch. I used to have one on a wrecker, and my roommate had one on his service truck.

Hi guys, I'm toying with the idea of getting a gas vehicle that warms up faster. Idk, budget and goals say otherwise but I am quite tired of my iceberg Duramax and I have a bit of damage starting to show on my fingers and toes. I'd jump back into the Blazer but it's really falling apart. The BEST heater if have ever driven was the 99' F250, it rocked!! ,except that defeats the gas engine warming up faster. My Dodge Colt vista wagon was nice and warm too, extra vent below steering column that helped alot. Thinking outloud, thanks.

I hear you on the warm up! That is one of my number one reasons I'll never buy another diesel at this point.

What about putting a remote start in the truck?

Ever try one of those auxiliary heaters that plug into the cig lighter?
