Ford Motor Co. is recalling about 874,000 trucks that have engine block heaters after reports of fires.

The vehicles affected in the recall include 2015-2019 models of F-150 vehicles built in Dearborn, Mich., and Kansas City. Also affected are 2017-19 models of Super Duty vehicles built in Ohio and Kentucky.

The recall affects vehicles with engine block heaters. The company said it is aware of three fires that have started from the engine block heater cable splice connector. Minor property damage was reported in one incident, though Ford said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries.

The safety risk only exists when the truck is parked and the block heater cable is plugged into an outlet, the news release said.

And they only break down if you drive them.

    Thanks
I like the color, but honestly, these trucks are so hard to find that the color wasn't much of an option.
Nothing fancy as far as options. I'm surprised though, the U-connect is a really nice feature. Took like 2 minutes to connect my smart fone, spool up some Pandora and make a call through the handsfree, mic, speakers. The music stopped when I got a call and started again when the call was over. Too easy, and I don't need to pay for XM!!!
The built -in brake control is nice and the Jake Brake is awesome. It'll really be good in our mountains!

i was referring to the short bed...........being a smart azz. I know not every one needs a long bed and a short bed is a lot easier around town. There are days I wish mine was 2 feet shorter but I do haul a lot of sheet goods so 95% of the time it is handy

I have driven 7 different (02, 04, 06, 08, 11, 14, & 16) Hemi Ram 2500 for work since 2002 with a combined mileage of almost 600,000 miles and my current truck is the only one to get past 60K without some front end work like bearings, ball joints, tie rods etc. I don't abuse these trucks and 90-95% of the driving is highway. Most of these repairs were covered under warranty/recalls. My current 2016 has had a few recalls so far including transmission work x 2 and a computer module issue

My only real complaint with my current 2016 5.7L 2500 is the cruise control. The speed will drop up to 8 mph with any slight grade, headwind etc. before downshifting and getting you back to your set speed. I have been driving with cruise set at 70 mph and pass a vehicle doing about 67. Come to a slight incline and now I'm doing a little over 60 mph and the guy I just passed is running up my azz:picard:. I asked the dealer about it last year when I was in getting warranty work done and he said 8 mph wasn't bad as he had guys saying their's dropped 10 mph. Even had the computer module replaced last year which I hopped would fix the issue but no such luck. Just last week I was going into a headwind and the speed dropped from 70 to 64 for about 30-40 seconds before it downshifted and got me back up to 70.

Never had an issue with previous models and mine isn't isolated as we have 3 2016 with the same issue. Hopefully this has been address in newer models. I am getting set to trade it in on a 2019 soon and likely going to a 6.4L Hemi. We don't keep them long enough justify the cost of the diesel option.

my 98 2500 Cummins is horrible on the front end. The bad things about the Dodge: front ends and rust.

On the flip side I just bought a family wagon, the Ram 1500 crew cab short bed with the little V6. Looks like TurboDiesel's without the Cummins plate

Our mechanic at work is a Ford fan and drives a 5.4L F250, however he loves working on our company Rams. He says the Rams may not go as far or as long before components need to be replaced but when they need to be replaced, the Rams are easy to work on. His example is that he can get 100-125K miles on a Ford wheel bearing but it's a 8 hour job to replace. You will likely only get 60K miles on a Ram wheel bearing but it can be swapped in a couple of hours.

And if you have to work on the diesel engine you do not have to remove the cab on the Dodge,

well you do not have to remove the cab, but does create a lot interesting reconfiguration of various languages.:hair: Might not even need a wood stove to keep warm.:headbang:
