With the tow bar, the pin hitch adapter, and V bar chains for the rear tires, and a resharpened chain I should be really set. My buddy also did a backyard fix on the primer plunger seal that was the cause of the quad leaking fuel. He used piece of an old deer hunting back tag as a gasket and blocked the plunger off. No more leaks.
Did a bit more work today. I got a brand new RS stihl yellow chain for my 029 super. Biggggggggggg difference! That last pic of that barkless tree above I found out what it was. American elm. It's all 17" rounds now. I'll need to get most of it, as I only took the pieces that were in the trail. I cut up a lot of the beech I fell last winter and hauled it out of the woods. There's still more beech down, and those standing bigger beeches will wait for another day. Here's a couple pics. I was busy working so I didn't take too many pics today. The rig... Complete with v bar chains on back, tow bar for the sled, and a plastic milk crate strapped to the front for gas, oil, spare gloves, etc. That's better than the cardboard box. Here's the tow bar. It didn't bolt right up. It needed tabs welded onto it. Here's most of the load. A few smaller pieces had to go onto the trailer with the quad and sled. It was loaded. See?
The snow was melting today, as it was 40 degrees. But splitting a few rounds up had the wood in the centers nice and dry. Beech seems to dry especially well, even if left in log form. The plan is to go out tomorrow and either cut and haul more, or just split all that I have so far from the last couple of weekends. It's over a cord easy. We may get a lot of snow next week. Hopefully only a few inches fall. I still need better front tires on the quad and I need to make a front rack "organizer" for my supplies. We're getting it done, and optimized.
Hmm. I've never really thought of it, so I'll find out. I did split a couple pieces and brought them home. There's a slight wintergreen type of smell.
True tree identifier... ........ Just make sure when your sniffing wood your not seen in public sniffin' wood. You might get the ... But we here at FHC completely understand..
