Working on firewood in 22* f. temperatures sure is better than in summer. We bucked and split 0.8 cords from this supply of ash. We brought a Ford Ranger full and a Mariner full of splits to a fellow worker's (and cutting partner) house yesterday. He will have to burn it right away (no 3-year plan) 'cause it's all he has to burn. My son and I further split, hauled and stacked this nice white ash (maybe a half cord) for the wind to pull water from. It was below freezing again today, so we opted to not even bother hauling out the Swisher 22-ton but used 8-pound mauls. I swear, you only had to approach a round aiming the maul at it and the stuff practically fell apart on its own.
Gark, we have to agree it was a good weekend for wood cutting. Looks like we were about the same in temperature. I think the high did get to 23 yesterday.
