That would be interesting. The pile just sat uncovered in our 10 day no sunlight stretch of hurricane joaquin weather. It was heavy!
A few of the splits had a very strong aroma, a sweet almost apple like smell. The rounds that had no bark were very dense, heavy and solid, my body can attest to that, lol.

Very nice The Wood Wolverine .
The folks will appreciate that.....I know I would.
Question......will you be stacking right there next to the pile of splits or elsewhere?
I like to split right into a trailer when I'm not near the stacking area, so that I don't have to pick the splits up. One less time I've gotta' handle all that firewood.
Prolly still at least a bit wet, but if it's dead, it should dry faster now that it's split. I've got some I did last year that I need to check for MC, or just throw in the stove to see how it'll burn. Should be gooder.

I live with my folks. I wash their clothes, cook breakfast every other day, (Mom cooks too) and mow the lawn in the summer and blow the snow in the winter. They need the help and I need a place to sleep; so it works out. I figure they raised me and kept me outta trouble. Least I could do is help them in their golden years.

It can be trying at times, living with Dad, :headbang: but I always remember that I won't always have them around. :tears:

Dad is 69 years old and Mom is 66 years old. I could get into all that; but I won't here.

That's usually the way I do it too papadave. This wood will be moved and stacked by my sister and a few of my nephews. We're sharing the duties. Today we're getting about 8 RR ties to edge their driveway and then a dump load of fresh stone before I split the apple, then let them stack it all. ;)

I think bogydave put up a "the 14 steps handling my firewood", or something like that.
We're always looking for ways to minimize that.

I hear it splits harder too because it never grows straight, even worse for orchard or domesticated apple trees that get constantly pruned.

Very true but 34 tons of hydro has no problems with it!

Got a fair amount of help today to run the wood to it's storage spot. I used my wheel horse w/ 4x8 trailer and had 4 helpers! Worked out to just shy of 5.5 cords including the apple. That aught to last them for a while ;)
