Good on you for involving a forester Bocefus. Will they be hand cutting or are they all mechanical? Any veneer coming out?
Update. Talked to the forester today. Loggers met with him at my site and plans have changed. My northern property line is a creek. The neighbor on the other side of creek also sold timber as part of this sale to the same buyer. His land is gonna be the yard. All my trees will be skidded across the creek up the hill to his open field. This is easier for them as I don't have a lot of flat accessible area for a yard and definitely no place to turn a log truck around. Crossing the creek adds liability I don't want. clemsonfor can attest to this. I hired the forester for another additional percentage to supervise the harvest so I don't have to. Since he knows what and how things need done, I felt it's better. I'll still go stupidvise when I can, but this way if somethings jacked up, all I have to do is make a phone call. Soooooo. My neighbor is gonna get all my butt cuts. I can go cut them in his yard, he doesn't mind, but what a pima! Out in the blazing sun, half mile away, and dammit.....That's my chit! I want it on my property! O well. I guess this way I can get to cleaning tops up asap and not have to look at the butt pile.
Hand cut, 1 skidder, and 1 small dozer. 1 veneer walnut, maybe 20 inch dbh. Skidder operator is supposedly very very good per my forester. He said not to worry about that at all. That makes me feel better.
At least you won't have the truck traffic in and out of your place. It makes sense they are cutting your neighbor also. Most outfits around here won't get out of bed for less than 10 acres.
This was the MO for the last outfit in my woods. Cat D6 and a fairly good sized Cat cable skidder. The dozer did most of the skidding as they were on some pretty rugged stuff. skidder spent a lot of time pushing and pulling the semis in & out to the loading deck.
You should still turn out okay bocefus78 and for cutting those butts in the sun, just wait until cooler weather if that is possible.
I came down to camp this weekend to take 1 more look at my woods before the harvest. They started on the neighbors already. Pics are of his place. Here's the creek they have to skid across.

Let the mayhem begin! First they widened my atv trail. Pic was taken in the little creek pictured earlier. And yes....thats a firewood stack that has fallen over Looking down the atv trail towards creek. A small clear cut. Almost everything in this area was damaged and needed to come out. This will be planted with some fruit trees for the critters, and allowed to regenerate naturally otherwise. As planned, the dammed loggers skipped making the bridge to cross the creek. Put the materials there....just didn't use them I sent the pic to my forester. I expect the loggers to have an earful by the am Pics are from my neighbor. I wish I was there to take more.
Here's some of my logs. Looks like alot of heart rot in quite a few of those logs. Sucks for the buyer.

Yes it is. I had a very good gut feeling this was going to be the case with alot of it. Every maple I cut down off this place had it. That's the reason I had the loggers take it. Wasn't going to get any more valuable, so it might as well go bye bye. Hey, the buyer knew up front it was damaged by the maple borer. He gambled. And lost.
No cutting today. I hear it rained there a little bit. At least they didn't muck up the place too bad. Yet.
They got the walnut next to my shed today. It was about 5 feet away and had power lines near it too. Better them than me making that cut. Looking towards the sky in the first pic, you never used to see blue sky. This is the area I want grass and will finally be able to grow some.
