I had been doing perty good. Not taking any Ibu at all. A week ago, I started back up walking again. Almost a mile each day for 3 days. My issue is L5 disc skiddin (wrong kinda skiddin) sideways once in a while, stopping all activity for 3-4 days usually. Walking was OK, but it was apparently enough to get things hapnin' (I never know how much is too much) and when I picked up a ramp out back (not all that heavy) I got the familiar pop and sharp pain. That's when the growlin' starts. My poor bride. Used Ibu every 6 hours for a while, flat on my back, wear a support belt. Been a long week... :headbang:

Thanks for askin' Chvy. Feelin better today... no Ibu yet...

Hope you are feeling better, no fun at all being laid up when there are things waiting for your attention.

Found this thread yesterday. Glad to hear things are going better now after a rough week. Getting off pain meds takes quite a while. Campinpecter has neck vertebrae issues and usually walking is the one thing that gets everything back in alignment. His doctor also took him off all the heavy meds as he said that with them, Campinpsecter would do things to aggravate the situation because he couldn't feel the first effects of pain and would do too much. It took awhile to adjust but now he stops when things first start bothering him - or at least he tries to.

After I got orthotics for my shoes last spring, I have been able to walk longer and harder without my knees complaining. The longer walks have been part of my weight loss over the last year. We also changed to having a big meal in the middle of the day with only a salad or light snack in the evening. Of course, that only works if you can be home for a middle of the day meal. It is a long haul to lose weight and more importantly to keep it off. Food is so good and reading the food threads of the Smokehouse makes it very tempting to try all these new things.

Last year, I got walking 2 miles every other day. When I took my swan dive this last Jan (showin off... again) :picard: on the ice, that was it for walking and I just never got back to it. When I started up again a little over a week ago, it seemed to be OK. But, as I look back at the way things happened... I started up too much, too quick and the area around that disc wore down fast, started to inflame and, pop... :headbang: I'm pretty sure the every other day walking was a better plan too. It's at 80% today, and that's a good thing.

Funny, we also gave up the big supper/dinner meal at 5ish, about 2 years ago. We'll have the main meal at lunchtime and mixed vegs and salads at 5. I still eat too much bread, chips and crackers. Gave up beer a few years back... I'd weigh 50 lbs more if I hadn't. And, I have ortho sets in my sneakers, firewood boots and my muck boots. My knees are fine... my achilles and arches are the prob. Can't walk 50 yards without the inserts.
Gawd... I'm a mess...

My knees were bad because I walk on the inside of my feet creating bunions and twisting my knees. When I got my orthotics, the tech said just use them about an hour a day until you get used to them. I put them in my shoes and never took them out. I can't believe how much better I walk and feel after walking. I think I have become addicted to it.

I use them too and have for about 3 years now. I got them for my leg and knee pain from working on concrete.

@Stinny I was going to like your post but I didn't like that last comment. "Gawd... I'm a mess... " I am sure your bride wouldn't agree with you even when you're grumpy!!

I've been having back problems ever since I had a trip and fall accident in 2001. That one incident changed my life forever.

I have arthritis in my lower spine and in both knees and both hands. Got the carpal tunnel taken care of last fall. Had a shoulder replacement done in January of 2010… that was a miracle.

So for the last four years I have had a once per year Prednesone regimen that helps me walk and stand upright for about six months… the next six months are hell. My doctor won't prescribe any 'good' pain killers so I'm stuck using Aleve and Tylenol.

Well the awesome VA hooks me up again. I suppose my fault for waiting too long as well, so I don't completely pass the buck.

I take Tramadol for my back and have done for for a couple years. Usually 4-5 pills a day (max dose is 8). I normally order a refill when I'm roughly a week or two from running out.

In order to get refills I have to go online, click some buttons and they mail it to me (yup... mail them!).
Usually takes 3-4 days from when I put it till they arrive. I put it in last Monday along with a few other meds and didn't get a chance to check my mailbox till last night. No Tramadol, but all my other meds. o_O

Call the VA this morning. No pharmacy number listed.. and after trying 5 or 6 different numbers, going to the robot voice menus and burning up close to an hour. I finally found one that let me talk to a person. Got transfered, hung up, put on hold... the "normal".

I guess they have tracking on the packages so they gave that to me. It's on me to figure this out. Check the tracking and it shows delivered.

Post office is looking into it. I can only guess it was delivered to the wrong address.

No the VA won't send it again. Doesn't matter that I NEED this medication. Granted I won't die without, but it's not very enjoyable. The regular back pain I deal with amounts to being bent in half until the back of your head is touching your heals and at the same time having railroad spikes being driven in. Yup.. it's pleasant!

I've taken 4 Aleves and 3 800mg Ibuprofen today and it's knocked the edge off. Gonna have to raid the liquor cabinet to sleep I think.

Hehehe... my grandpa nickname started out as Grumpa, but the little ones only came close with Bumpa. :) That might have made me a little less Grumpa...:D
