Best way to degrease a sling? I’ve tried Dawn soap and hot water... I’d like to try to keep it, but I can’t use it with amount of grease on this thing. We used it to remove some big castings out of one of machines. They were going to throw it away... so I grabbed it, thinking it would be easy.

How harsh of cleaner can one use without it damaging the sling?

I agree, Simple Green or Purple Power with hot water. Probably take several baths to get it usable.

Soak it then take it to the car wash.

Boil it in a pot for a couple hours with degreaser or Dawn

Enzyme pretreatment and heavy duty laundry detergent.
Little to no heat for drying.

Simple green and purple power are both great degreasers. I believe the best practice is to use them diluted. Somewhere in the 10-32:1 ratio for rubber, vinyls and nylons.

We use a lot of nylon straps for lifting. Once they start to fray/wear (or you can no longer read the label) we get rid of them. It's just not worth taking a chance of dropping something expensive or risking injury, but for pulling logs or for tow straps, yeah we keep them around.
I haven't noticed any problems with degradation from grease. A few of ours are really greasy from using them on the forklift.
I'd be more worried if the straps were always wet. You can't see if the inside is rotted.

I'd try rinsing the straps with a pressure washer and let them dry good in the sun

Yea, just want to use around the house... if I can save it, fine.... if I can’t then I’m not out much except time and cleaners.

it’s soaking currently... might take it to the car wash this afternoon.. see what that does...
