Another doe for the freezer. 12 gauge sabot slug. She didn’t go but 30 feet from where I shot her. Weasel beast tracked her down after dragging me through a briar patch. Hanging overnight, temps are warming up tomorrow afternoon.
My son said he acquired a 35 Whelen a couple weeks ago for deer season here. Pretty sure he has plenty of knockdown powah now. He shot a doe tonight, he was very happy that she dropped straight away & there was no trailing. He usually uses a 350 Legend. Oddly enough I was talking to him last fall about the 35 Whelen & he talked me out of it but doesn’t seem to recollect that conversation…
I realize this is a deer thread....with that being said... In my defense, I took the rifle when I went to check the cows in case I saw a buck worth shooting. Which I did, but couldn't get a shot. Then found this girl trying to slip across another pasture. First coyote I've ever killed.
Got a doe tonight. I was hoping a buck was with the group of 6. After 10 minutes of watching them I decided to take a shot. They were starting to walk into the real thick stuff and I wouldn't have a shot. Rifle ends saturday so the window is closing and I really don't feel like sitting for second archery in december/january.
This from one of my trail cams, last day of the season. I no longer hunt and my only hunting guest let this one pass. He had him at 100 yards for over two hours on opening day. This is why he is my ONLY guest allowed to hunt. There were eight bucks on opening day that had a doe pinned down. The buck pictured, three in the 17-19 inch range and the remaining four in the 14+ range. If you're hunting horns, you gotta let them grow. He's not the biggest on the farm, but hopefully he'll be a nice 12 point and better mass next year.
I did put a doe in the freezer on the 1st day of gun. Hunted bucks the rest of the week and passed every one I saw. Back in the bow stand as I type.
