My 13 yo son got his license last Sunday. Yesterday was youth day for deer/shotgun. By 7:30 in the morning, he put this one down. Two minutes after shooting this one, a bigger buck came in. He was beyond thrilled with his first official hunt.

Good job dad. That is real nice to see jrider .

When our kids got their first deer I was much more excited than after any deer I have ever shot!

I let 6 bucks go yesterday in my 40. I am getting fussy in my old age. They will be bigger next year!
Neighbor got his at 7am this morning. Less than a 100 yard shot.

Doesn't seem that long ago I had my youngest out for youth and he is 37 now. Good memories for sure. Congrats.

Most definitely! Now we butcher it on Tuesday. He’s helped before but will take the main role this time around. He told me he knows how to fully skin it so no matter how long it takes him, that’s my plan. Heck, I may go work on firewood while he skins. By the time I was 14, I could shoot, fully process, and put a deer in the freezer. Thinks he wants to be able to do the same.

Nice work! I’ve been working a stretch of days that ends Wednesday, and am looking forward to getting out later this week. Rumor has it, we’re supposed to get some snow as well, so that would make it even more fun.

Not enough it appears. Tallboy, the 9 pt went through one of my stand's lanes at 5 am Sunday morning second day of fun deer season in WI. Followed by a decent enough 8 pt a could minutes later. So tallboy will hopefully survive until next year.

I saw no deer in they minute of the opening weekend of hunting in the woods. About 20 hours give or take. Didn't even see a doe. Has to work today, have interviews with prospective Buyers that I'll be hiring one of. Our regular gun season goes through Sunday evening but I won't have time to go until the special doe only "holiday hunt " down near home where I will go at my friends 50 acres. This is a first that I didn't see a deer during hunting opening weekend.

PA first archery was done last weekend. Saw a huge buck, but he took the wrong trail and went 60 yards out in brush.
Of course the spikes and Mr. Forky come with in 15 yards.
    Fun season starts saturday

I've been on a tear lately. Shot bucks 5 years straight and 3 have been 10 points. The others were an 8 and a 7. Four of them from the same tree. All on public land with no cameras or food plots. My son also shot a buck out of that same tree the day after I shot one. If trees could get MVP awards that one has earned it.

Definitely something different about hunting on public ground. I did a fair amount in 19’ & 20’, and was able to take 3 nice bucks. Definitely more work, but I keep telling myself I need to go back and do it some more.

Shot that 4 point above in NY with .250 Savage, 102 yards. Passed up several small bucks but it was time to get it done before I move on to PA deer hunting tomorrow. Won’t be back out in NY until late muzzleloader.

First day of rifle, only saw a spike buck and a couple doe in the brush. He is about 6-8" above his ears, but still a spike.

Gun opens Monday here. I've been in the stand alot so far and could have a full freezer by now. Interesting how hunting has turned to watching before gun season for me. Unless it's 135 to140 inches it isn't catching an arrow. I'll bow hunt tonight and pick up a gun in the morning.
