Looking real nice. Not to far over here to GA, we are extending the gable over our son's deck and putting on a metal roof. Got the rafters put up Tuesday, cut the tails, got fascia boards and fly rafters up this morning. It was soupy here, 110° HI. 96°. We have the metal on the back half done.
I wondered why you had strapping on the roof in the first picture. Lovely colour for the metal roofing.
I really like that. Normally around here metal roofs are put on for snow load control. Can you tell me why a metal roof was selected for GA? Really nice that you and your son are able to work together on that project.
Thanks. Of course, we don't get much snow...lol...but metal roofs last longer than shingles, easy to put on over existing roof, is cooler than shingles due to air gap and I know how to put it on. I'm not much of a shingle guy...
It's level, he has a tremendous amount of fall towards his house. The post were final plumbed when we put the ceiling joists on.
I have laid one metal roof on a Boy Scout camp platform for a team building exercise first weekend of college orientation- became the foreman pretty quick but I’m not 18 and fearlessly jumping around on an open purlin roof on this project. Got to finish out the hurricane ties, fascia, cut back hardie board cement siding for sidewall flashing and then the roof goes on... it rained yesterday and this humidity should be gone tomorrow
Life got in the way of progress- GF went into the hospital with diverticulitis fortunately the antibiotics and anti inflammatory meds worked and she was discharged yesterday about 30mins after I got there to visit her. I hate sitting in hospitals even more so when I have chit to do. So it took me the better part of Saturday morning and this morning to cut the hardie board siding ended up getting a diamond blade for the oscillating tool it was slow but gave a better finish cut than trying to balance a circ saw on edge on a ladder. Had to loosen siding and cut a couple blind nails for the sidewall flashing and vacuumed up all the dust. Installed the drip edge Then started laying the metal in the dead sun took under 4 hrs with a couple pool breaks. Hopefully tomorrow afternoon I can get the sidewall flashing and gable end trim on.
Sorry to hear about your GF Glad she's better and out of the hospital. Looks like you're nearing the finish line on this project.
Glad to hear she is back home. Looking good! You mentioned a couple pool breaks, how about the wobbly pops?
I refrain until the evening with all the ladder work. Was up on the roof this afternoon after the sun went over the tree tops to finish screwing down the metal felt a little sketchy and tried to lean down on my hip and nearly went for a ride. As long as you stay on your sneakers you’re reasonably good. Going to scout for an old couch cushion to sit on while I finish the flashing.
