Gorgeous, nice job on the new deck!! LOL I remember selling parts and scheduling service appts at the pool shop I worked at for that kind of filter, seems to a be good one. It uses DE?

No it's a 300lb sand filter, I use 2cups of DE for a polishing aid. Shop vacuum it out into totes moved reconnect plumbing and refill with sand. Took a few hours, repurposed one of the stair landings with some extra knee braces for the platform. It'll get a permanent home under the new deck when completed.

IMG_1169.JPG Starting to look like a deck. Beam nailed off and secured. Set about half upper joists. Might need to update compressors as my pancake is struggling to drive 4-6 nails with the palm nailer... of course using full 3-1/2" 16d on the joists. It might be ok when nailing 1.5" on the hurricane ties or I should have bought an MCN years ago

IMG_1176.JPG IMG_1177.JPG Upper joist all set and hangers nailed off.
Temporarily braced the outer rim joists and started digging the other three footings...
Hit a half rotten pine stump on number 1
And some 2-3" roots on the others

What? All out of cocktail napkins?

Good project. I hope the rest of it co-operates.

I think I layed my straw hat down on it soaked in sweat.
It's coming along 15 more bags poured yesterday for the outer footings- feeling that today.

IMG_1181.JPG Plugging away. Had to let the footings setup another day, got the posts and beam set this afternoon worked on blocking for couple hours each evening while waiting on cure time.

Need to make up my mind on decking, starting to lean towards 5/4 vs. 2x6. Changed my mind a couple times on railing posts from 6x6 lapped inside to 4x4 outside with chamfered corners

Yeah the 2x6 is beefier and will probably hold up better long term.
I got pricing today on 2x6 kdat and 5/4" plus prime 2x6 and premium 5/4 non kdat.

Kind of a conundrum on the kdat as it only comes in 12' and 16' lengths and the deck is essentially four 7' picture frames with an 8' on the end.
    Kdat pricing:
    2x6-16' runs 2$/lf 12' 1.73/lf
    5/4-16' $1.56 12' 1.58
And I have to order it

Non kdat For 12/14/16' lengths of either 2x6 or 5/4 run $.90-1.03/lf

If I go kdat I'm cutting $4 off a lot of boards

We can get 5/4 × 6 composite up here for about $2,20 /foot. At 12" centers, 5/4 will be like a rock. Not a fan of 5/4 treated because of the ends curling and twisting, but on 12" centers I think you'd be fine.

Never heard the term "kdat", so I'm not sure if that's what you're talking about or not

    Kiln dried after treatment.
And Yellowood brand down here offers relief cuts on the bottom to relieve the cupping.
I think they had to step their game up with the composites on the market- my main dislike of composite is the surface temperature. I don't want to do a hot coal bed walk every time I hit the cooler or dive in the pool.

Outer section joists hung, beam finished and footings back filled squared off ready for blocking and bracing.
