While price is important, service means everything! Our local dealer closed after 40+ years in business. The new guys in town can sell you a saw...but don't have the years of service skill.
I drive a little to another dealer that treats me great and has a lot of knowledge of older saws and the new technology :)

To me it does as well. I can work on several things and I do but I dont have the time or feel like working on stuff all the time. Thats one of the reasons for the 441 it tunes itself plus a couple other features I liked too

Anyways I am pretty sure the dealer has to pay for there techs to go to training and if they are going the extra mile learning and keeping up all the while providing good service in general I will go the extra couple miles to give them my business

I ordered a bar mount file guide a few weeks ago from a dealer a couple miles away and still havent seen it. Heard a lot of excuses. Hence why I dont do hardly any purchases there. If you dont want the small sales then you must not want the big ones either is how I feel

It's pretty common for a manufacturer to bribe a dealer to carry their product exclusively (which is really what being an "elite" dealer is all about) by offering the best pricing for parts and wholegoods to those dealers. Stihl certainly wasn't the first, nor are they the only ones to do it.

Nothing wrong with carrying an exclusive product line but my favorite small engine shop carries multiple top shelf brands and prides themselves in being able to offer the very best power equipment available without being shackled to any one brand. It ain't the always the easy road but I admire what they are trying to do.

You are lucky to have a shop like that around. Every dealer around here no matter the brand except a couple are really only selling saws as a supplent to other parts of their business which i get that too you cant sell saws and trimmers alone you wouldnt be in businsess very long Service after the sale is mostly sharpening chains and minor repairs. This particular dealer is the best I have found around here so far and goes beyond the basic service

They are an hours drive for me but it's worth it every once in awhile to see some old friends and catch up.

Didn't make it yesterday but I did, after a crazy morning, get there today, just got back as a matter of fact.
This is what happened: 1. At 10:00am.I sold my MS 660 that I bought less than 2 months ago! And did not loose a dime on it 2. took the money to Cottinghams and bought a MS 362 AND an MS 661! The 661 won't be in until Tuesday. 3. came home with a huge case of buyer's remorse, but like gas, this too shall pass. Pictures later tonight, my wife has my camera at school.
