I agree it's confusing as all get out. You know your stuff... think about it. Just because two gears share the same tooth count and diameter, doesn't mean the teeth are the same size/profile.
I have a couple of loops I picked up from another participant at charity cuts & love it! I use it on my Jonsered 2139T & Husqvarna 338xpt. off the reel the chips are twice the size of the semi-chisel chips. Hedge got me started square filing so I am square filing mine.
If you have .050" gauge chain (very likely) then yes indeed it will work and be an excellent performer.
Should. The PS chain is a square ground full chisel chain = .50 gauge lp = low profile = picco 3/8" chain. The PS3 is basically a safety version of this chain which doses fine on the straight portion of the bar but inhibits bore cutting.
I wonder how this stuff would do on my recently acquired MS200. The chain that's on it is in great shape, but I'm intrigued.
Boog is 100% correct. Most 192s were shipped with .043" (PMN or PMMC series chain) but if your bar has been switched to an .050" gauge bar, you can run 63PS chain.
Actually this is round ground chain. Nobody is producing square ground low-pro/Picco chain commercially that I am aware of. Still gotta file it square yourself.
This chain was born to run on an MS200. Literally. Stihl introduced this stuff as a high performance chain for arborists running smaller saws in the tree.
It's got a 14" bar, but I'm toying with the idea of getting a 16". I'll price one out and if I decide to get it (a new bar, how extravagant!) then that'll be the one to get a loop or two of 63PS for.
Another hardware compatibility question: My understanding is that "picco" simply means low-profile. Is that all it means, or is it also narrow-kerf? Would any 3/8 / 0.050 low profile bar be appropriate for this chain, or do I need to worry about finding a bar that's thinner as well? Left Coast has a GB bar that looks good and is cheaper than Stihl's equivalent, even with shipping.
Just low profile. The narrow Picco is the Picco Mini (.043) which is designated with either PMN or PMM prefixes. That bar should work fine.
I was thrown off by this, but I just realized I already have a 14" loop of this stuff that I got from my local dealer. It was a boxed chain, not custom-made. Not that it matters, but mine is green-label.
