$7.50 is not terrible...some or them are double that, and more. I'm a big NGK and Motorcraft fan when it comes to plugs...no issues with Denso though either...
Looking into this, there's a bit of improvement based on forum banter on 450 rhinos from literally just putting an iridium plug in it. Better they're response and quicker " warm up " drivability. Looks like the ngk iridium is in the $7 range for this ngk drieix plug.
Could, but every action has a reaction. I also like the flame backfires. . Although if I were to ride my bike in times square apparently that would encite pandemonium.
Yeah, I've heard that before...when Splitfire plugs came out everybody went crazy over how much better there XYZ1000 ran...now you almost don't even hear about Splitfire anymore. Same thing with aftermarket exhaust..."so much faster" was what you always heard...I thought it was hilarious when the magazines started dyno testing aftermarket mod parts, and some of them actually made less power!
Some aftermarket stuff is crap. The good stuff is clearly better. D&d pipes for example, are loud, and that's it. They usually make less power than stock. The stuff that works you'll see at race tracks.
I mentioned my splitter earlier, but I had also the same things happen as the OP, with our 454 ATV. I had to replace the carb on it a few years back, from years of being parked in the corner of the barn. Found one on Ebay that was almost exact but not quite. It would kill plugs just like the OP described, all at once, fairly regularly. Until I got the jetting better. I knew it was fat on the bottom but it was a pain to get to so I didn't bother for quite a while. I eventually dropped the needle and now it's pretty good, and I think it's been a couple years since I changed a plug. But they can die all at once just like hitting the kill switch. Or sometimes won't start at all after switching it off.
New iridium plug ($7) Fired immediately, then died Caught a little while cranking, then nothing Tried the choke, no good Walked away, thinking maybe I had flooded it and not sure how much battery was left Came back and noticed the other day I had layed a leather glove over the air intake to keep out dirt, etc. Hmmm Removed glove, cranked a few times, started right up and ran great. Has been run and restarted several times tonight, and all is well. Many thanks for all the suggestions. I didn’t think it could be the plug, going that suddenly.
Well at least it was something simple! I had a customer bring me a quad one time that was acting similar, only it would always restart, then run increasingly poor until it quit a minute later. Rinse, repeat. Turned out the whole intake system was full of dog food...front to back, top to bottom...several gallons worth! Took a couple hours to take things apart enough to suck it all out of the intake snorkel tube with a shopvac. Ruined some poor little mouse's whole winter meal plan!
Yup! To be clear in my case, the glove came along after it first died, and only was in the way tonight. I’m sure it was the new plug that solved the problem, despite all my doubts.
