Not very many around here but splitting some up today for fillers come Jan/Feb and i think the big girl has had enough of wood this weekend?
I don't have any Ash, but sure see a lot of dead standing when I'm out traveling. Take it before it rots I say. Emma looks like she's enjoying the views! Did you ever tell her she's a movie star on the internet and has a big following?
Maybe Emma and Ellie should have a gtg by a stove.. With as long as she's been there I'd be concerned if I couldn't see her belly going up and down..lol..
The rounds here are from a large standing dead one at one part of the property Woody and the split is from the little dead one i cut the other day about 4 fields away from the other. Pretty sure they are the same kind but i dont know much about Ash?
If you get a chance, I'd to see a couple pics of the split face of the wood. But the end of the round sure looks like Ash of some type...
Ya they are Ash Woody i'm just not knowing what kind? The one on top is that same split from earlier and the round on the bottom is from last year on my pile. Emerald Ash is here so what Ash that is here is very easy to spot. Its too bad as the Elm thats here also has a bad case of the Dutch Elm.
It is surprising how different Ash wood can look from species to species. They all seam to be nice straight grain. But I bought some Ash from a guy once and it looked quite different from the Ash on my property. He said it was because the Ash he brought me was quite a bit older tree and it came from a swamp. Much different bark and some variation to color.
"The Guide" shows the White Ash range sloping up into Canada, and the last pics are looking a lot more like White than the first ones did. I'm not familiar with Black or Green but I would think, based on BTU ratings, that if you had a dry split of all three the White Ash would have a noticeably more heft than the other two. Is that stuff pretty dry? (Doesn't appear to be, with the bark still solidly on.) Even the same species can vary quite a bit, apparently. I've seen some pics on here where the heartwood of a guy's White is pretty dark, much darker than I usually see here.
