I don't like the super sweet cider either. Here's what I saw for downeast as far as availability. Not quite to Wisconsin or really much past ohio, and Indiana it appears. I don't have a sister either, but my other brother from another mother Suburban wood snob might.
I am on electric co-op lines and they are responsible all the way to the meter, and in my case, that is on the side of my house. Check with your power supplier to find out for sure who is responsible for the drop.
Ok, I did a little more clean up after work and took some pics after I signed up for new cell phones. Here's the stump and the trunk that I have to cut. I'm not worried about anyone trying to steal this wood. If they try, they'll be found under it. A load of short logs in the trailer. And the piles. Crap pile on the far left. Middle left is the smaller logs, on the pine splits are bigger logs and some rounds all from this ash.
This one's good sized. I didn't measure the stump, but it's probably 22-24" in diameter. This is the third biggest ash on my yard. The biggest is massive. I can't even reach my arms around that one and I've got long arms. That one I'll have to rent a bucket lift to cut down if I do that one at all. The next door neighbor has 2 large ash that need to be taken down by a professional crew. He was quoted 1200 each, and that's not including stump grinding. I'll help him find a better deal. I'll get the wood from those trees too. I'll make sure to give him a good supply of dry camp fire wood.
I don't know about that. They sent somebody out to see what we were talking about. Over the years we had two taken down. Just call them and ask. The worst they could say is no.
Well, I couldn't just sit and watch football all day. Stitches be dammed. New phone with a better camera isn't allowing pictures to be uploaded... I'll work on this.
Ok. I can attach the pics in lower resolution. 10-12 mb pictures are a bit much. My old phone would do 3-4 mb pics. All cut up. First load of rounds What's left by the road. It's not going anywhere. Heavy stuff. 24" at the top of the stump. So basically 24" dbh. I also hauled four loads of branches, and cut a few pieces of fir and walnut that were too long. I'll need to move the burn barrel over by my processing area so I can cut after work, then reload the burn barrel and get the brush knocked down a bit. I think I'll burn some brush, and chip some.
Oh yeah, here's the culprit. This one died popping out of the bark. There's larvae lines all over the inside of the bark. The bark also comes off of the sapwood very easily. That's the first eab that I've actually seen.
Kinda pretty bugs till you see what they do. Haven't seen a live Ash tree anywhere near here in years. Miserable little monsters. Good work on the tree Horkn .
Yesterday, I cleared all the rounds from the front of my yard that was by the road. I put it all in one trailer load . I should have done the small place of rounds first to make the trailer a little lighter. I made a little bit of ruts in the lower yard. Not bad, but I should have thought a little as those 4 trunk pieces were a load on their own Notice the tie down on that round? I didn't want to have to load that back up again. I probably also should have noodled at least 2 of those 24" trunk rounds. Oh well. It's parked down bwbel, waiting for me to split it. That will happen this winter. Here's the trailer parked by the rest of the tree. I did cut a number of rounds from the longer pieces I had stacked. The other side.. And some more big rounds that need splitting Last pic. I've got some more cutting to do on this, as well as the splitting, so I'll be busy with this. Oh yeah I have to burn/chip/ obliterate the branches.
I had to post this today, because with the crappy rain and wind today, I'm doing nothing outside today. The only wood I'm picking up today is going in the stove.
Couple of years ago a friend of mine was over and pointed out to me that we had some in the garden... Sure enough there were a couple on flowers. He said you should kill those on site. I didn't think much of it at the time but two years later nearly every ash tree in the neighborhood is dead or dying .
LOL. I believe that the exception to this rule is when the injury happens on their watch... Or worse ... They warned you that you were doing something stupid. Your mileage may vary.
