Today, in the heat, fire call for power lines down/arcing. Theres a good chunk of town presently out. And a millennial in her car across the street. ZERO hot weather survival skills I guess.

So, based on 22 years of living together, and never using or having AC: M/M Sirchopsalot's list of things to do to keep cool sans AC:
    Take a cool shower
    Take another
Wet bodies and clothing in front of a fan, is a wonderful thing
Go to the woods for a walk, picnic, etc.
Go to the library, mall, out to eat, senior center, friend's house
Leave town for a few days
Wet towels, frozen, wrapped around the neck, are divine
Set up a chair and tables in the basement
Town park with pool, fountains to play in....
Have a friend hose you down outside.
Ask the town to open a hydrant part way so there's a fountain for the kids to play in
    Drink lotsa water
    Split wood, sweat like mad
Rail trails if they're shaded (walking, cycling)

It was 94⁰ here at 10am. I spent the morning chasing the shade. I cut out and mulched a new flower bed for the mrs before the sun hit that spot. Glad i did it early because it It feels like the surface of the sun over there now lol.

Yesterday I dug and layed about 60-70ft of new irrigation lines while it was in the shade. Finished just before the sun hit there .

Welp, in the words of Alan Jackson, it's officially "hotter than a hoochie coochie" outside. :dennis:

These all work but I grew up like that and promised myself I wouldn’t sit in my own house and sweat. I have no problem going through multiple shirts a day or drinking a gallon of water and not peeing while I work out in the heat BUT when that’s over with, I figure I work too hard to drip sweat and be uncomfortable sticking to everything I touch in my house.

My parents home never had AC either; when mom came down with cancer and was bed ridden. I threw one in her bedroom.. My fathers response; what will it do to electric bill??
    I don’t give a flip!! I’ll pay it

next month it was only $25 extra

Don’t read this wrong; my dad would have given his wife anything.. He never had it..

My wife won’t live in house without it!!

I heard a story last week bashing this woman for “not taking the narrative seriously” her rebuttal was excellent.

This past thursday my employer sent the office staff home early due to the extreme heat. They're in an air conditioned office :loco: . Meanwhile this is what I was working on all day and had to work my full shift  . Buncha pansies.

It rained for 8 hours last night and the temperature dropped like 10 degrees. Highs in the 80s after a week of 99-103.

We had several plants bloom this morning trying to make another generation before the 100 degree weather comes back.

It doesn't get that bad here..theres maybe a week or three where its just misery, amd that isnt every summer. So we got an AC.
But we just prefer it here without..... a cool shower does wonders. that may change, as I sleep during the day, we get older...
    Or we'll move North.

That's gotta be one of the stupidest things I've ever heard..

My previous employer had AC in the office but rarely turned it on on the shop floor. It would really pizz the guys off on the floor when the office people would come out on the floor in jeans and sweatshirts because they said they had it so cold in the office..

We get told to drink a lot of water,.and gatoraide or whatever, take breaks if needed. But the work must get done.
8 and 9 hours much of it in exposed open areas.
If they told us to go home because of the heat, I bet Id end up out in it anyway....moving wood, doing other chores.....

Haha I'd probably do the same. I just thought it was comical that they sent the people home who were in AC for "extreme heat". Are they going to melt walking from the building to their cars? I chose to work outside in the elements and on days like we had the past few weeks I just go at a slower pace. When I feel the slightest bit of heat exhaustion coming on it's water/break time. They don't question us on taking extra breaks.
