Don't know where you are vs freezing temps but... how about the garden hose/sprinkler setup? Obviously, the neighbor won't train the dogs, so you could try. At the very least, they'd go home soakin' wet... When the neighbor finally asks... you were just training the dogs to stay outa your trash!

I wasn't kidding,I've used the Exlax method in my trash cans, It actually works! my neighbor never let his dogs into my yard again. It's amazing when they have to clean up a mess in their house!

Re the dog doo, my buddy had the same problem. He waited and caught the neighbors dog in action on HIS lawn. Immeadiately went out with a shovel and proceed to air mail it back to the side of the neighbors house. After the third application of "The wind blew, the chit flew, the neighbors dog ceased sliding in" to do the dirty act. Problem solved....................

You are in a pickle. Neighbor disputes are tricky. Remember, you have to live next to these people. They make tv shows about this kind of stuff. People can be crazy vendictive. Remember, give and take.

Whatever you do, keep in mind: its the owners fault, not the dogs.

To me it is crazy for you to have to spend dollars and time controlling someone elses animal. For sure some pictures and calling the animal control is in order. If someone wants some target practice, and air rifle can work wonders without doing damage (the right sized rifle).

One time I had problems with a neighbor who usually kept his dogs tied. But once per day he'd let them run loose and the first place they went was right to our yard. I complained and it fell on deaf ears. They owned a store. So, I simply took a scoop shovel and every time the dogs went on our lawn, that got removed and placed right in front of the entrance door to the store. Amazing what things like this can do. But still, why should we have to? It is up to the owner to train his animals and to keep them on their own place. In our area, I know if you get a picture of a dog on the road and turn it in to the animal control, it is an immediate $50 fine. Three times and the dogs are then picked up.

Some people care more than others. I've got a Golden Retriever, who just loves people. I was talking to the neighbors one day and they mentioned that my dog had come over to their place and played with their grandchildren, but had scared the youngest because the kid wasn't used to big dogs. They didn't mind, and actually love my dog and have repeatedly volunteered to watch him when I'm out of town, but the next day I bought a wireless fence. That neighbor lives 150 yards away, and if my dog was able to go there, play, and come back without me knowing in the 30 minutes I left him unattended, where else might he go when I leave him out longer?

I put in the wireless fence. My dogs adjusted to it in a day. Just remember to take the collar off befor going on a ride or when they are inside. They can get false alarms just going near the frig. I only have to have it on beep, no shock. Other dogs need more of a reminder. I don't let my dogs go out freely unless we are near by. Otherwise, they go into a gated yard attached to the house. Going out with them may be inconvenient at times but it really is better for the dogs and the dog owners. Up the road there is a neighbor who has two dogs. He never leaves them unattended for a moment. Same for the one at the other end of our road. Being responsible is not too much to ask.

My neighbors dog got a hold of my dog almost 5 years ago. We let our dog out (8 pound furball), and she didn't come back when we called. She never leaves our yard, and rarely goes more than 50 feet from the back patio. Our neighbors let their dogs run loose, and they've gone through at least four dogs that I know of. Dog gets hit by a car, they go buy another dog. Nice, right?

Their dog came into my yard (crossing a field to get to our yard) and the neighbors dog (some type of lab/Doberman mix) had our dog in its mouth. Whether it thought it was playing or not I couldn't tell, but it punctured our dogs chest cavity. I got a $300 vet bill, my dog got a bunch of stitches. Neighbor got an azz reaming from me. That same dog later caused some issues with other neighbors and their animals. A few months later I went after the dog with a shovel when I saw it coming into our yard while my daughter was playing outside. I didn't hit it, but I would have. I contemplated grabbing the gun more than once, but didn't want to have to go there unless absolutely necessary. The county wouldn't do anything unless they saw it "in the act". County animal control is 20 miles from my house, so that wasn't going to happen. The problem solved itself when that dog got creamed by a car and they eventually moved away. Good riddance.

I used to take care of elderly neighbors dogs (they had 8) and had a bad run of hospital visits for both husband and wife. I would walk down the mountain where our properties met, as well as the corner of another property with new owners. One of the new owners dog's bit my husband in the rear while he took them dinner from me one night. Ironically the bite was on his back pocket so only a bruise. From then on we had sharp pitchfork permanently standing in the ground for our protection on our frequent visits.

The world could use more neighbors like you... and less jugheads with aggressive dogs.

When I trapped, I carried the rear half of a pool cue with the end drilled out and about 2oz of lead added. Used it to dispatch animals still alive in traps. If'n I were some of y'all I'd consider making something similar!! Wicked effective!!

I'll help with letting dogs in and out, food and water but I can't run or walk far. I decline to look out for an animal that I am not feeling safe with.

friend of mine had his goats killed by his neighbors' German Shepherds which got out......they came over to his place, dispatched the goats like nothing.....dogs are the worst thing for goats.....I think in a case like that you get the heavy rifle out....drop the vermin, and take em into the woods for the ole "Circle of Life"......never admit to anything....."your dogs? no, haven't seen em since they killed my goats....".....

Listening to some of these horror stories solidifies my desire to never live in a place where I have neighbors to contend with. It is a very big thing with me that, A. My dog is never outside the house un attended. B. That he is on leash and under control @ all times both on and off his property. If someone enters my residence un invited or wants to enter my vehicles un invited, then by all means it is his right and my expectation that he protects what is ours. He will lick you to death when all is right, and he will be your worst nightmare if your are where you should not be. That being said, I never place him in the the "grey" zone where it can be inturpreted that he was wrong.
