Isn’t Rivian under investigation for false advertising and had to re work their deal with GM? They do look better with a lot of nice features.
That was Nikola. Their Badger. I liked the idea, and obviously the name Rivian and Ford are connected as well as for with VW for EV and some other projects. Gm tied to Nikola, as well as lordstown.
I like the looks of the Badger better too, and the name is cooler than R1t but it doesn't sound like it's going to happen now with Nikola's troubles. I had not seen the R1t tank turn until I stumbled on that video today, seems like a gimmick though pretty cool and better than Teslas smash proof window gimmick. Ford's million pound tow video was fun. Do you know if Ford is manufacturing the R1t or does Rivian have their own production facility?
Rivian has their own manufacturing facilities. The tank turn is something that all 4wd EV's could do, and more than rivian are already advertising it. Lincoln electric SUV to use Ford-backed startup's 'skateboard' chassis: sources I really like the idea of the Badger's hydrogen fuel cell to give it better range. Sadly, it doesn't look like Nikola will make these. Skid steering is already on the new bronco, once it arrives this spring.
1991 Honda prelude had all wheel steer. So 30 years later add power to it?!? Fyi. All wheel steer in snow and ice was terrifying!!
I know that this is an older thread and I read it today from the start. In effort to pull it back on the tracks after some derail, I must say that the cyber truck is the ugliest excuse for a “truck” that I have seen in maybe forever. I wouldn’t even consider it a truck unless we start letting in unibody wanna be trucks in the club. A truck has to be body on frame in my opinion. The rest are just cars with open trunks. I am excited to see my first cyber truck hauling a diesel slip tank. Real work still gets done with Dino fuel. Electric has a good ways to go, but it sure shows potential. I love the torque possibilities that it opens up.
I take it you had one? Gm had quadrasteer in pickups, it was great as long as it wasnt dog tracking. A friend of my dad's had one. It sure made the turning circle much tighter. With electric vs hydraulic power steering now, it will be easier and much less complicated to do. I know Ford took out some patents on a new version. Now, there's this whole chip shortage that is stymieing production across pretty much all of auto manufacturing. Carmakers have been hit hard by a global chip shortage — here’s why
It's going to take a mental shift for most folks to adopt, but I'm happy with what Tesla has done. In less than a decade they changed the mindset that electric vehicles are dumb and slow, to something people want. I owned a Nissan leaf to see if I could "get on board" and loved it. Now I have a model 3, and we're planning on ditching my wife's prius for a model Y. Once the range anxiety goes away, its hard to beat living with an electric car. Every morning its charged and toasty warm. I haven't been to a gas station in almost 5 years, and I can't say I miss it. To me the challenge is still the infrastructure. It's sorely lacking, unless you're driving a Tesla or your in a major city. Going way back in this tread, there is a cool newish technology that could be a game changer. They've developed geothermal wells in very deep layers that can be somewhat of a self sustaining 24/7 power generator. Very cool if they can start getting it to scale. There's current plans to install some of these on remote islands in Indonesia that currently rely on diesel generators for power. The first customer Cybertrucks are starting to be delivered. The press trucks have been kicking around, YouTube vids are coming out, most seem pretty impressed. I’d buy one but would probably have to wait a long time as I don’t have a reservation. Here’s a pretty decent/entertaining one.
