    Awww, quit your whinin...load that lil splinter back on the truck and go see this guy, it will fall into perfect splits like BeechNut has just at the sight of this thing! ;)(never would have guessed that as Oak either...would have bet money on Maple based on the bark...but I see now that the wood under the bark has a Oak looking grain to it)[​IMG]

    No hydraulics here so if I had a piece like that I would try the maul first (sometimes it surprises you what you can split especially since that is oak, and if you split between the limbs), second I would try wedges and sledge hammer, and third I would make cookies with the saw. When I cut these pieces usually get cut shorter anyway since I know they'll be harder to split.

    If'n I was going to work that puppy up I'd slice that nub off the left side first, then I'd noodle down through the top in about 6 to 8 " and drive a wedge in the cut. My second choice would be throw it over the hill and spend my time on something else.

    Went out at 7 this morning not bad 70 degrees, took care of that big crotch and worked on some more slabs from the oak pile, just the crotch pics here, noodled some split some
