Cut my first serious firewood of the winter today.

    One thought is to leave the Ash till the EAB kills the tree. Some trees have a resistance to EAB so by cutting them before hand you might be eliminating trees with a resistance. Its been seen in areas that have already been hit hard, one or two trees untouched by EAB. Those trees are the ones that are most needed if Ash is ever to make a come back.

    That is a good point Soggy. I have 40 acres of predominantly hardwood and I cut 3-4 trees per year. And the trees I cut are usually damaged in some way or are chosen to release another more valuable tree. I don't want to give the impression that I'm removing all the ash from my property - I couldn't do it if I tried!

    True but the ones that escape are usually very young trees. We have a few but we'll never see our woods like it was before the eab.

    We thought the same and it is proven true. We can't remove all; some have already gone too far to be of any value even as firewood.
