Here's another video to show you how productive the correct tool can be (bowl gouge). He just hogs right through the wood with ease!
My wife found this tonight. Pretty sick work. Some pieces are up to 10 feet in diameter. Dave Barkby Wooden Wall Sculptures - Image Gallery
I split some of that ash and tried to save anything that looked curly. This one made it through the splitter. Probably can still find some uses for them.
That's a nice Ash I'm guilty of burning curly maple What I like about Ash In the Woodshop is it don't stink like oak and it's just as strong
I've got a whole pallet of firewood in my woodshed that consists of pieces deemed "too interesting to burn". Among them are a crotch from a yew tree, a bunch of crooked juniper branches, some apple wood including a stump, curly ash and cherry, and a bunch of larger hop hornbeam logs that I'm saving for tool handles. Some of that stuff has already been there close to a decade. The nice thing about picking through the firewood for craft wood or turning blanks is that it's free.
I do like that idea. Wish I had some long ones for axe handles. Was also thinking mixing spoons for the kitchen.
