Question for Fireview Owners: what is the highest air setting you have run the stove at with a full load?

I have not yet pushed this stove, but with temps heading towards zero, I wanted to get an idea of what others have done during the zero and sub-zero temp ranges. Currently I run in the very narrow range of .9 (dark screen) to 1.1 (consistent lazy flame). I have burned down the coals at the end of a burn cycle using air setting of 4 when STT is in 300-350 range.

I'm going on year 3 with my Fv and we had a VERY cold winter last year so I only have two years experience. My findings last year were the draft control is extremely sensitive with my install one side or the other for 1. When I close down below 1 the flame will go out, but many nights I'll cruise like that for hours with no flames and just a slight orange glow in the wood and yet the cat will be bright orange and I'll run at 400+'F for hours.

When I open maybe 1.25 - 1.50 the stove pretty much rips through the wood at anything past 1.5 and then just quickens the coaling process. I really haven't pushed it all that much. I did get it up to 700'F once or twice, but for my house and install I find I get it up to the 550'F area and it will stay for hours at 550-then drift down to-400... while at 1 and then I'll open it up quite a bit more as it goes into coaling and then just let it wind down to ash or as close as I can before I need a reload. In real cold weather I will shovel out ash about once every 2 or 3 days.

Dennis will come along and maybe give you much more info on running at high temps. I've got friends with Progress Hybrids and they run those babies all day long with big flames and to heat their big sq footage.. but I just don't need to do that. Plus they have that awesome ashpan setup so they just sweep away the ash and re-light on the coals.

My experience as well. A tiny nudge of the air control makes a big difference right around 1. Burning the coals down on high at the end and reloading around 350 has made a huge difference in being able to keep my house temp just where I want it (72-73). Just trying to anticipate what I may need to do once we drop 15 to 20 more degrees. At 1.5, my box is flaming pretty hard and I half expect Satan to pop his head out and tell me to turn down the air. :) STT are still only in 550 range, but I've never run a stove with that much flame in the box and was wondering if any Fireview owners do.

I have a KS but it runs very similarly to a FV. With my install, I don't notice a touchy area around 1. My manual recommends 2 as the max draft setting while the cat is engaged, to allow time for the cat to efficiently burn the smoke. My STT doesn't vary much with draft settings of 0-2. But the stove makes much more heat at higher settings. At higher settings, the smoke is consumed in the FB (flames) and heat is radiated through the sides more, especially through the glass. At lower settings, most of the heat is produced by the cat, concentrating it under the stove top.

I usually post these over in the What Are You Listening Too thread, but I thought it was appropriate for this thread too, with my new FHC bling.
