Well, it is useful for smaller trees and using wedges, yes. I guess you could say specifically for, since you're cutting a hole or pocket for the wedge. If I get time tomorrow, I will try to draw it out so maybe it makes better sense. Like Buzz daid, there are different length wedges, and different thicknesses. This method helps keep a Ling wedge from "bottoming out" against the hinge when driven straight from the back perpendicular (into) to the hinge. Hope this makes some sense. I will have to go back and read some of the other posts better, just skimmed them.
Look up the "bore cut" method, as well as the "Humboldt cut". Bot require some study and practice, bur both are great additions to your knowledge aresenal...arsenal.... I use both of those cuts religiously.
hey man thanks for all the instructions. 1) the tree was leaning on the face cut that there was enough gap to put my hookaroon in there to use it as a lever. It’s a logrite so stronger than whatever else I have 2) got it 3) thanks for explaining that. 4) i only have the short ones. Good point on the leverage 5) i was. There was also a wind, in a favourable direction. So I looked up probably 30 times. And had a helmet, chaps , etc. That was lesson #1 from this site. 6) my helper was in school! 7) exactly. I won’t do anything that I don’t think I can actually do. I have a lot of hung trees at my place and don’t bother. 8) thanks 9) will check them. But see my answer to #7. I will stay within my limits. Thanks so much for the response.
