Did some long overdue mowing at parents acreage today...open area near western property line.Guessing maybe 1/3rd acre for it all roughly. Should be 3-4 cubic yards, grass was anywhere from 18 inches to 3 foot tall in the heaviest spots. Gonna put this on Craigslist as - Free Hay - Mostly 1st cutting bluegrass, also clover, goldenrod, stinging nettle, assorted other native wildflowers/weeds.You rake it up yourself & haul away.
You never know there may be someone stupid enough to pay you to do it so make sure you put a price on it
The fact that their place is roughly 60 miles west of metro area, about 7 miles from nearest small town & out in the sticks on a not very well traveled gravel road makes it all the more tempting just wondering how many people could actually find it.... They're not in local phone book either since they had landline disconnected about 5 years back.Neighbor on south is about 1/8th mile away, nearest neighbor north is at least 2 miles away on same winding road that passes several thousand acres of woodland, pasture, steep rolling hills & cropland with several different owners.Even their little house is barely visible from the road, only in wintertime unless you go up the steep gravel driveway about 350 feet....
ha ha this one wants a 40 foot walnut tree cut down for free http://denver.craigslist.org/zip/4575936354.html
haha I see that 2-3 times monthly around here. People think what they have is gold & not only is it valuable but you should pay THEM for the privilege of removing the tree or pile of cut logs instead of them paying YOU to clean up their mess.
You could make one of the mini hay balers & process the "hay". I hear they sell well at farmer's markets.
If you guys want to see some good ones check out Washington DC and type in free firewood. It's about an hour for me one way way but with the truck and trailer it's worth it. I made two runs there this spring and it was quality wood already bucked and they helped me load. Once my schedule calms down in a few weeks I'll make a few more DC/Baltimore runs to add to the stacks. Trying to find free wood where I live is like trying to find free gas.
Ive got the same problem I think its because there are so many wood burners around here I cant find wood to scrounge anywhere.
I contacted one cl ad yesterday that said lots of wood your choice of split, rounds or logs, they wanted $200/cord for log load - i am loading and hauling- nope not in my book. Evidently money does grow on trees around here.
