Thanks for the review Steve. For me, these are very similar to LGs. The pictures don't show the color very well, they are a very light blonde - is that your take too?

Yes, they are definitely blonde in color but not quite as blonde as others though

    Thanks for the review !!

Aside from a few bags of Lacrete a while ago, Crabbe are all I have used this year and my take on these are that they are better than the good big box stuff while being cheaper (that might change of big box starts dropping) and a little bit under the great softies like LaCrete.

Although not much less in the heat area, there is definitely more ash and yes some longer pellets than the great stuff but I've seen worse.

Glad to see that you had the black ash as well as that was a concern for me when I first started burning these this year. That concern went away quickly as my cleanings have been quick and easy.

An odd thing is that clinker. After about 22-25 bags burned I havnt had anything like that.

Right now I am burning Crabbe even with the current cold spell and they are throwing some really good heat. For me, with a stove that does not care about long pellets and a huge ash pan these are a pellet that I can continue using as long as the pricing is in check and save the LaCrete for the real bad cold.

Disclaimer-although these seem really good to me, I am not using pellets as a main heat source this year. That being said I cant say if the usage might be higher than I think but so far so good.

Regarding the clinker, at first look my ash looks course like a hardwood ash but is actually fluffier than it appears and falls apart easily when pushed around. The coarse appearance may be because of the color?

Yes, the ash was coarse but fluffy. I had decent buildup around my burnpot.
