Simon and Garfunkel's The Boxer. If your familiar with the song, there is a flute part in the middle that this guy plays on his guitar. Awesome!
Zeppelin covers Zappa, last tour. The horn section comes in full force at the 7:40 minute mark. Alabama Shakes, Brittany Howard can belt it out.
Close your eyes. Hard to tell the difference isn't it? We did Heart covers, Zepplin covers, so why not another Heart covering Zep?
Ok, now this is classic. One of my favorite "Oldies" groups was The Guess Who. I saw them several times in Buffalo when they were just a little known Canadian band coming over the border to play small gigs for us locals. Here is a truly classic cover with a host of "old rockers" (Ringo Starr, Todd Rundgren, Joe Walsh, Burton Cummings of course, and a bunch of others) doing a version of "No Time". Randy Bachman's not there for the guitar but these other dudes can hold their own on it.
Hadn't seen this one. Lizzy Hale is awesome. Wife got to see her and Halestorm last year as an opening act. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to be there. Glad her and Lindsey got to do something together.
As long as I got The Guess Who in my head, who can forget their cover of the 60's song (I think) by Johnny Preston, "Running Bear". (Probably a lot of folks could forget this one .................. you have to remember this was "72" I think.)
Ok, one last Guess Who song, I won't push it any more . If you younger folks are not familiar with them you have to listen to their stuff. Although this is not a cover, it is a tribute song to one of the greatest DJs and music personalities of the 70s, Wolfman Jack. You younger folks have probably never heard of him, but he had a nationally syndicated program and could be heard across the country. I included 2 versions. The first is a live version with Burton Cummings speaking Jack's parts. I like this one for Burton's piano work at the beginning. Watch this one first. The second version is the original LP version with the Wolfman speaking his parts. Once you heard the Wolfman's voice, you never forgot it!
The Man Who Sold the World never really did anything for me but the other 3 are great, especially the 10K Maniacs!
I always loved that tune off the radio but I never knew anything about Soundgarden. I'm going to have to listen to some more of their stuff. I looked up the original version of the song on youtube, man, that's one weird video (like so many others)!
Chris Cornell will go down as one of the greatest rock singers of all time. Also check out Audioslave and Temple of the Dog.
